i've done a bit of modfications to my case to try to quiet it down some, after all the mods I had checked to see how the temps were with the fans all running at max speed but the only way I have to check in thru the bios so I can only get idle temp and wasn't sure if that was acurate or not, also was wondering what is considered acceptable range for the processors, i'm running dual athlon MP 2000+ processors.

That's going to depend greatly on the specifics of your setup.
Some people report getting CPU temps in the 40's, in a dual CPU configuration. |

with all the fans at max RPM i'm getting 26 C on CPU 1 and 31 C on CPU 2 and a case temp of 31 C after about an hour of running idol in the bios, with the fans down in low RPM's i'm getting around 35 and 40 respectively for CPU 1 and 2 and I think it was around 35 for case temp.
i'm assuming since you said others are getting 40 C then i'm safe running it with the fans down at lower RPMs to keep it silent. |

I don't know if I would trust those readings. Maybe you better take the temp of your water (add 10 - 15 for the actual CPU temp).

the system isn't water cooled so I can't do that, i'm using 2 QuietMaxx 5100 CPU Cooler for the CPU's which are huge copper heatsinks, over AMD's spec for weight, and they are ducting air directly from outside the case and the room temp is around 18 C I think, whatever 60 F converts to in C, that's whay I wanted to find some software to check the temps just to make sure.

You could try mbm5, but I doubt it would be any more accurate.
"In the 40's" refers to a water cooled dual setup, so I tend to think you're running above that. On the other hand, if you're not overclocked ... bu most people don't OC in duallies... I dunno:shrug: Maybe if you could measure the HSF temperature: the CPU should be at least 10 deg C above it. Not easy. Maybe a "hands-on" approach would be easiest: does the heatsink feel warm/hot, when you touch it? (at the base of the heatsink, on the outer edge) |

Ok, i know this is not the same setup but i get about,
45c/48c IDLE & 55c/58c LOAD On a, ASUS A7M266-D and dual MP1900+. This is cooled with two GlacialTech lgloo 2320. And two sunon case fans at 7v. So if your temps are correct you have really good colling. ![]()

where could I get that software?
also, I have two thermometers on a 5 1/4 bay to monitor the temps in the CPU area and in the HD/PSU area (using the YY cube case), the probes are paper thin, would it be safe to slip it inbetween the CPU shim and the heat sink to check the temp that way? I didn't want to just try it cause I wasn't sure if it was safe and didn't want to fry my CPU. |

I'll let you Google for MBM5, it's easy to find.
I had to lookup your CPU coolers: ![]() To compare, the GlacialTech lgloo 2320 that Pritorian uses is an all Aluminium unit. See this PDF. So maybe your temps aren't off by much after all. You shouldn't risk slipping those probes there, unless you feel confident. The die rises 0.80 to 0.88 mm above the substrate. You would do better by sticking it on one of those HSF fins. |

those temps youre getting off your bios sound really low...i guess you also have a pretty low ambient, but i wouldnt think your one cpu would be at 26??? that sounds awfully low, especially for aircooling. i wouldnt trust the bios, are your thermistors on your board actually touching the bottom of the cpu (or do mp's have that internal diode thing?)

i'm not sure if the temistors in the board touch the CPU or if the MP's have something to read it's own temp, I looked on the the specs for my board and it didn't say, this is the board I have. MS-6501
edit: just looked up the specs on AMD's website, the MP processor has an internal thermal diode on the die, not sure if the bios is monitoring the temp from that or a sensor on the board itself. Last edited by shiltz; 01-28-2003 at 04:36 PM. |

That's the MSI K7D.
![]() It doesn't look like an in-socket probe. The following users have this board: SpeeDj, Dix Dogfight The following users might have this board: nexxo, Lord Twilight You might try e-mail/PM'ing them. |

I went and downloaded MBM5, the attached file is the readings I got from that after 30 mins at idle.
the one think though was it looks like MBM5 picked up the internal diodes for monitoring the temp in the MP processors that are directly on the die, but when I try to select it from the pull down it won't actualy select it, any idea as to what I can do to get it to let me select them instead, or is it posible that the board only detects the temp thru the internal MP diode and doesn't have it's own sensors? I know that MBM5 sometimes needs a little bit of tweaking, but I haven't played with it long enough to advise you on it.
Anyone? Your CPU voltages look different. Is this true? |

no, they aren't different, just fixed that now, it had labled the +2.5 volt as core 1, there is only 1 voltage reading for both CPU's as far as I can tell.
