Default The Inevitable Downtime

I think I blew something up in my machine. This morning I come in to check my ip log from the night before, and all I have is a frozen desktop with the a message telling me that my IP is being duplicated on the network. When I restarted my box, I got a BSOD error (XP) while booting up. On the second try I got my 8500LE BIOS screen and nothing more. Freaked out at this point, I pop my puter open and clear the CMOS and give her another boot. This time I get into regular BIOS. Upon checking my PC Health stats, I'm at 75C CPU temp and rising!!! At this point I panic and check everything in my box for leaks and such and realize that my pump is not pumping and is SUPER hot. Further, I noticed that I'm not getting the typical spark in the relay going to the pump when I turn the power on. I'm going to disconnect the relay tonight and try to wire it directly to the wall, but I think my pump may have bit the big one. At least it has a warranty ... I just don't know how keen they'll be on honoring it since I've done drastic surgery to the power cable. This really p!sses me off, since I was planning on hosting a massive UT2K3 game tonight. *sighs*

Give that pump a try! I ran my Little Giant out of water for over a week and it still works fine. It was hot when I discovered it after a road trip because a leak drained my system dry while I was away. I thought it was toast to. Also I always carry a air cooler for just such an emergancy (one that will fit in between the hold down bolts), always have to be ready to keep the game server going!! Hope it still works for you!

Airspirit, is this your "favorite" Via 1300 pump?

This isn't the Via. This is the NurseryPro ... I'm wondering if the relay could have gone out. If the relay cooked, then the pump would naturally heat up from the water. The only thing that bothers me about that is that the water hoses themselves don't feel all that warm .... At any rate, I'll know tonight what the problem is. I'm going to desolder the connections to the relay and gator clip the pump's power wires directly to the 120 VAC terminals on my pass-through plug (it comes out of the back of my box in the same standard format as the power cords for a PSU or monitor). I'm sure with how beefed up that pump is that it has to be the relay ... but if it IS the pump I'm going to be one angry hombre. I really don't want to disassemble my whole WC loop AGAIN.

Just for clarification, Ben, the Via 1300 I bought is dismantled in a heap in my computer parts bin in the closet. It saw less than a half hour of use in the entire time I've owned it, and I will never under any circumstances hook it up to my machine. I hate that piece of crap with a passion. I think if my NurseryPro burned out, I just might try an Eheim this time. I'll just trim the casing of the NP to fit the eheim for vibration dampening.
