Default Anyone know of an 802.11b signal booster?

I'm generally happy with my new wireless network (WAN), but I would like a better connection. Anyone know of a signal booster?

Dunno about boosting the signal, probably illegal to do that, however a lot can be had by carefully choosing your antenna placement. You want to be sure that the base-station (access-point) antenna is placed as high as possible for the best range.

Also, you want to avoid having intervening metal structures, 802.11b wireless kit is 2.4 gHz RF, and doesn't like any metal between the access point and the remote station PC. for example: In home construction, they frequently embed expanded metal mesh reinforcing in mudwork (tile) walls, which is total block for 802.11b signals. Other metal like ductwork will block your signal too.

Think of 2.4gHz radio between the base-station and remote PC like a beam of light which WON'T go around corners or metal, but will penetrate some nonmetallic walls ok and you get the general idea.

I found 7 mile antennas from www.smc.com, but they are too expensive. I guess i'll have to deal w/ my bad signal. It is going through 3 walls .
