Via's new K8T800Pro Mobos
Looks like a good low cost alternative for those of us waiting on Socket 939. HardOCP has a 1 page summary up, and they state everything I wanted to hear in the first section:
"The VIA K8T800Pro chipset solves the issue with the prior VIA K8T800 by unlocking the AGP and PCI busses. Now you can run much higher CPU FSB speeds as seen below." 255 fsb and it looks like a pretty decent performance boost compared to 200. I still wish some of these guys would run that 5.25" indicator instrument that shows actual PCI frequency when doing this testing though... Anyway if AMD will just release a low cost overclockable 939 chip I'll be set.

I'm with you on this one: I'm waiting out for a cheap 939.
I just picked up Skulemate's Barton 2500+, and I expect it to last me quite some time, until the above becomes available. Also, the NForce3 250 chipset is out, and it looks like most mobos will have PCI/AGP unlocked as well. Otherwise, I'm getting word that some people are all over mobile Athlon FX, because it's an unlocked version of our regular old (!) Athlon FX. |
