who's running dual xeons?
i need a new production box, and i don't like to wait for my computer. anyone out there running dual xeons, say of a fairly fast breed?
just trying to decide if it justifies the cost, or if a hyperthreading p4 would be just as good. i'm disappointed tho, seems in the past few weeks hardware prices really haven't dropped any, 'cept the 9800 256mb...

had a dual xeon set-up with 2 500's. it only really exelled when working on things customized for the 2 processors. it also kicked ass with running F@H. running two different clients, one on each proc. but other then that i didn't see any huge advantages, but rremember to put in lots of ram if you do build one.

i will eventually be doing video editing, but i'll probably build another dedicated machine for that.
right now, photoshop, macromedia studio, that sort of thing, and some occasional 3d rendering (more in the future). photoshop is multi-threaded (as well the 3d programs), and although it would be faster, i'm not sure how much. right now i know my bottlenecks are the single 7200 rpm se drive, and only 1 gb of ram. new system will have at least 2 gb ram, if not more (regardless of what it is). it's amazing how fast you can burn up 1gb of ram lol... if i went duallie xeons, i'd probably only get like dual 2.6's or something tho, instead of like a 3.0e p4. edit: yeah, i've seen that case before, that thing is damn nice.

That thing is incredible! I know how much work is involved in some of that, and it amazes me that people do it.

You guys realize that Xeons split the FSB between processors and that opterons kick their ass in performance right?
