Default questions about MCW6000

I have 2 quik questions about the design of the mcw6000 block.



first, why did swifty decide to use the clips as aposed to the 4 holes for mounting? I would guess the using the 4 holes would give higher pressures and have less chance of breaking than the plastic clips on the socket.



second, why is there 2 different springs used in mounting? The manual on swifty's site says that there is 1 soft spring and on hard one. why is that? I would assume that you would want equal pressure throught the block.

1) The base is slightly too wide for making a top holddown to use all four holes. Presumably this is to get it to fit on all the other platforms. It's also no longer a standard; Swiftech would have to make a socket and 4 hole Socket 462 block to ensure full socketA compatibility. Blame AMD in other words.

2) The core is not in the center of the block but to one side. Using difft springs gets equal mounting force on the CPU and keeps block mounted flat.

I was wondering about this too... I just got 6002-A and mounting was little more finicky then I thought it could have been... Just didn't feel like I was getting the best contact... You said the block is too wide for all 4 holes... It looks like the holes might 'just' clear the block if thin bolts are used... You think it's worthwhile to try home made holddown through the holes w/ some nuts and bolts for this block? Or maybe use P4 adaptor... But then have to think about mounting force on the CPU... Hmmm, what do you think?

1) 4 holes are gay, too. It's a lot more work to get the same thing (adding on to pHaestus' comment)

2) Interesting... Mighty interesting. I would have thought that with two equal springs the force would be ~16lbs across the entire bottom including the die, while with two inequal springs lopsidedness may occur...

Think lever and fulcrum and it will make sense.
