It seams that the electroics are sealed in the body of the D4 pump. However, there's a 2-prong pin plug on the back of the housing. There's nothing on the Laing web site nor in the instructions that suggest what this plug might be for.
I hooked an LED up to it, but it didn't come on.

Ahhhh, there *is* a way. Are we still interested in the yellow wire?

According the the tech support guy at Laing, the two-pin plug is for a capacitor or battery. In some installations such as a solar controlled pump a capacitor is need to "jump start" the pump.
I sent him a reply asking about the possibility of adding a tach wire so we can read the RPM of the armature. If/when he replies, I will post his response. Until then, how do I determine which wire to splice into? There is a yellow wire which (so far and in my limited experience) has always been the color of the tach lead. I don't recall the other wire colors that I saw.

Re: AquaXtreme or MCP-600 R.P.M. Signal Mod.
Will this mod work for a D5 vario? Or is there any other way to get the signal?
I want to use it as a flowmeter...
