Well hi
Just thought I'd take the Herculean step of posting a new thread on this site and see if anybody replied.
How's it going everyone? I'm currently living in New Zealand, and my only computer is a late 2010 MacBook Pro. Not what you'd expect (though I do have a scientific Linux and Windows 7 64bit VM on it). Anyone still around/alive here?

Re: Well hi
New Zealand? Wife kick ya out or something?
I stop in here now and then to clean up spam. That seems about 99.5% of the activity around here. The other .5% is the Snap stuff. Moved on to other hobbies. Can't remember the last time I used after market cooling. I run a 6 core AMD 1055T with a Ati HD 4850 on my main system and have no noise issues with the stock cooling. Getting old... Mid 30's already. I think I joined in here 10 years ago... Almost miss the flame wars. |

Re: Well hi
mac isn's as ominous as it sounds; I HAD to have a new notebook before going on a sabbatical and at the campus store the 15" Macbook Pro had similar/better specs to all the PCs available. I have been wanting to try out OS X anyway so I gave it a go. I still bootcamp into Windows to game (even with steam mac gaming is LOL) and I have a virtual machine running Win7 for work all the time. I do really like expose' and spaces and the operating system though and this is one of the nicer notebooks I've owned.
I moved our whole family down here Jan1-April 29 for a break from Canada. It was a pretty great move as the beaches here are spectacular. I'm actually thinking about building one of those "ludicrous gamer" rigs in May when I get back to Canada, and I may well watercool then just to impress the ladies.

Re: Well hi
Sounds like a nice break, on vacation the whole time? Glad to hear from ya Derek... long time kinda.
Bet you love that macbook. I had a 13" 2010 pro till a couple weeks ago. Sold it because the next gen came out and I didn't want to loose money on it (bought it lightly used). Using a 12" PowerBook G4 and a quad core xeon with HT & 4 gigs of ddr3 inside a PowerMac G5 case... both of course running OS X. Air cooled too... When I have the time and space to tinker again I want to make a nice OC'd WC'd older box...

Re: Well hi
Yea I'm about 4-5 hours drive south of Christchurch; not directly affected by the quake but I feel terrible for the people there.
The only real annoyance of the Mac is the 5400 rpm hdd in it. The rainbow spinning pinwheel pisses me off so much. I was using a Lenovo x300 with SSD in it before this, so it's extra apparent now. The 15" is also pretty heavy, but i knew that going into it.

Re: Well hi
Derek keeps telling me stories about grand plans to make another awesome rig.
Vaporware? Only time will tell. Maybe not, though. Since Duke Forever is actually being released.

Re: Well hi
And now Duke's delayed.
I must admit that I've never played any form of Duke Nukem.

Re: Well hi
Hi Derek,
I wondered why we hadn't seen your turkey poo at SRC for a while. Sounds like you're doing well. Best regards, Bob
