They are not all idiots, but there are a large population of them in the General Mayhem section. The low SNR is what moved me away from the HardOCP crowd. Still, there are some smart people there. It's just much harder to find them than here.

yeah.. in sections like "Strictly Intel", and some other specific forums, there's some excellent info. Some of those guys are really sharp.
But in the GM forum, there were guys w/ 1000's of posts who were bashing newbs, including me. not very professional....

I stayed away from the gm, my impression was it was mostly schoolkids. Mostly I got tired of having to wade through pages of off topic bs to get to the info I was looking for.

all are asked pretty much daily:
hey, there is this girl i like. how do i talk to her? How do i overclock my Athlon XP? Should i overclock my XP? Should i lap my heatsink? How do i make my computer quiet? Im new to watercooling, what should i get? 90% of posts are repeats cause NOBODY uses the damn search button. I do post over there often because you can get some good info added to your post, (usually after sorting through a bunch of flames) and they do have a few nonprofessional threads that are somewhat cool. such as the Domo-kun photochop thread LOL the [H] just needs to go on a diet and become a lowfat forum without the redundancy. i guess everyone cant be like procooling |

I'm a member of the [H] and I have to say it's nice to come here and ask a serious question and get a helpful answer. If you go the [H] now youll notice Kyle posted a thread in all forums stating anyone flamming will be banned.

I dunno, saying smart "guys" would imply there is more than one of them there... and I think thats a big over estimate.

I think that the Hard Forums have some good info, but there are too many people there, too many newbs asking questions being answered by other newbs with "I don't know".

Like ksw said...not a serious forum.
I like it when you see a guy ask what he should use in his watercooling set-up, then six months later, you see the same guy asking what he should use in his water cooling set-up. I get the school kid impression in most of the topics, not just General Mayhem. Not that I'm bashing school kids...cough, cough,**Brad** cough... ![]() |

i guess you have crappy teachers lol.
the hardforum is a good database to search thru, but not actually post in lol. you can always find good info if you just use the search feature; it works wonders. |

there are 2 goodthigs about the [H], it has a larger member base, so when you ask a real Q in one of the non GM forums, you usually get a desent rosponse fairly quickly. (bout 75-80% of the time I'd say)
The other is I met decodeddesil there and he showed me pro cooling! ![]() (and I then learned tons about watercooling)

There are some people in Cool Cases at Hardforum with a TON of smarts on circuits and electronics. For example, I have gotten correct troubleshooting on an IC at like 3am on a Tuesday there.
I don't think that the Hardforums are any different from all the other large forums out there really: the majority of posters are young kids who think post count is proportional to intelligence. You lots of times see someone post a lot in a non-hardware section of a site, get "uber" status, and then they assume they know a lot. I bet there are some members here who have lots of posts in the Random section too. Just the way things work. My complaint about basically every busy forum is that the Search button is so neglected. At Hardforum, this is compounded by the fact that older useful posts get killed, and that the search button is sometimes DOA. And in closing, I don't think it is particularly mature to come over here and complain about Hardforums. Send moderators or H|OCP staff e-mails, or sign them up for gay pr0n or something but don't go to other forums complaining. |

I read and post on the Hardforums some and I lurk here quite a bit. I think in any forum you have a certain ratio of a-holes to smart, helpful people. When you have a large forum, like the [H], you need to realize there will be a lot more of the a-holes on there then you would find on a forum of this size. That doesn't mean that there aren't a ton of people on there that don't know what they are talking about. You just need to learn to sort through the crap and ignore to idiots. I really don't see how difficult that is.
I have to agree with pHaestus on saying that it is imature to come to this forum and act in the same manner that you are complaining about. I also agree that people need to search before posting questions, unfortunately at this moment(and has been this way for a while now) the search function on the [H] is not functional. Anyway, this post is much longer than I intended, but I had to explain what I thought. |
