Think of this TEC setup
Current system
Two loops with 1 res where the 2 loops mix. 1st loop Res --> ViaAqua 1300 #1 --> BIX #1 --> Maze 3 --> res 2nd Loop Res --> ViaAqua 1300 #2 --> BIX #2 --> DD GF4 block --> res Each BIX has Panaflo 120mm Med blowing with no shroud Current temps with 22C ambient are Water 27 CPU 2.66@3.1@1.625V -->28 idle 32 load (F@H) Radeon 9700pro -->28 Idle 31 load I was thinking of a 226w for the CPU powered by a Meanwell S320 And an 80w TEC for the GPU powered by my 520 Vantec Steath PSU. Add an 1/2" spacer and shroud to the BIX's Will this work? What temps should/can I expect? Are the 2 BIX's enough to cool all the heat generated? I expect the total heat will be around CPU --> 100w(?) CPU + 20a*12v = 340w GPU --> 40w(?) GPU + 8a * 12v = 136w Total around 476 watts. Is this an accuarate figure? My goals are to OC the cpu a bit more to around 3.2/3.3 and get better OC on the 9700Pro with a voltmod. Thanks |

I like it, but I'd take one of the BIX off of the CPU loop, and put it in parallel with the other BIX on the GPU loop (but hey, that's just me!): it'd give you more flow on the Maze3.
Two BIX should do. You should try to force more air through the BIX to lower your water temp some more, but 27C is good. With Pelts, your water temp may exceed 30 deg C, and that's getting hot. BTW pelting a GPU is questionable: are you looking for a short term OC ? |

I'd suggest replacing the 80W TEC with a 172W TEC.
The 172 Watt TEC running at 12V will give you a few more degrees C of cooling and draw less current. (About 6.7 Amps.) Any idea how accurate that 40W number for the 9700 Pro is? |

Almost.
I'm suggesting that you put Bix #1 in parallel with Bix #2 (not in series). The benefit is that you'll use the first pump strictly to push flow through the CPU waterblock. With the BIXs in parallel, the GPU block shouldn't see much of a difference in flow rate. You might be able to drop your (CPU) temps by a degree or two that way. |

Your system can handle it, what you're really asking is what kind of temps you can expect, and there's just too many factors involved to answer that accurately.
It will work. Many people have this setup. Check it out If anything, I would question the use of BIX in a pelted system: it looks (to me) like a conflict between form and function. Your coolant temp could drop say, 5 to 10 deg C with a better cooling solution (which may have a negligeable effect on CPU temp: 1 or 2 deg C). This assumes that your coolant temp will rise above the 27C you're getting now: it's not possible to cool below ambient. Personally, I'll pick a big fat heatercore over spending $100 for a couple of BIX, anyday (but hey, that's just me!). As for the second loop, because you use the two rads in parallel (versus one), the flow rate will actually increase (through the GPU block), because the two BIX will be less restrictive than one. I wouldn't bother too much with the GPU pelt: it's really overkill. You're far more likely to damage the VC than getting better performance out of it for any significant period of time. You can use whatever pelt you want, but keeping the power down is always a plus! Since you just want a quick-and-dirty score, go ahead and cool it as much as you want (at your own risk, of course!). |
