What exactly is the heating element you guys are going to use? As FuzzyFace said you guys should look into the electric water heaters. You could probably salvage one very easily looking at the fact that all homes in Malta have their own water heating equipment.

One more thing, are u guys sure that the 1/2 pipes are going to take the pressure very well?

Another method of heating water.
I remember about 15 years ago when I was in the Netherlands visiting some friends, They showed me there water heater. It was a very very small unit (flash heater) on the wall in their basement. It only heated the water when the hot water tap was opened. It would then heat the water as it was passed through the unit.
If you could find an electric one of sufficient power you would not have to build any thing for your hot water.

Okay, could somebody estimate for us the total heat that these bongs would dissipate with 4x 78cfm 120mm fans and that large pump?

This is an estimation:

Computer: 80W of heat to the water
Pump: 200W of heat to the water
Primary Heater Element: 500W
Secondary (Variable) Heater Element: 400W

Is this good enough for the bongs to handle? Is it too much? Or is it too little

The dimmer I found can handle up to 500W so wiring a 400/450 W element would seem the right thing to do. The pump is 317W BUT I doubt that all 317W will go into the water. The computer will be a 1700+ oc'ed to its limits and cooled by a squirrel block. I think that the PSU will also be watercooled.

That brings another question...Is cooling the transistors connected to the heatsink enough? We are going to get rid of the fan.

Balinju, I need you to do something like this for the thermal simulator. I will provide you with the 500W dimmer.

What do you other guys think? Is a voltmeter needed or does the voltage remain constant with a dimmer since it doesn't act like a resistor?

I don't have much to add. I think you need a volt gauge to go along with the amp gauge. Makes calculating the watts more accurate than just going by what the wall plug is rated at.

As for the elements I would expect they would need to be insulated somehow to keep them from turning the matal housing into a shock box. Remember the element heats because of the electricity runiing through it. That elecricity may arc to the surrounding metal and kill someone of they touch it and ground it out??? I may be totaly wrong, but it would sure suck if I was right and you found out the hard way!

jaydee116, i think that elements are coated, just like the wires used in a solenoid, or however it is written, otherwise if someone dips his hand in an electiric kettle, he would die instantly.

secondly i would like to ask if somebody here knows exacly what a dimmer does to put down the voltage. Does it cut some part of the wave or it just acts like a variable resistor. we tought that it cuts the wave but when we went to buy one, (btw the bigger we found supported max of 1kW), he told us that it acts just like a resistor. But if this is thought, we have to cool down the dimmer do no??? if it dissipates 1kw of electric energy, it must go to heat or somewhere else no??

Don't know how to calculate it, but you lack a key info: your average ambient moisture. as the main cooling effect of a bong is from evaporation, you need to live in a dry climate to be effective. If your air is "wetter" no evaporation can occur, and the only cooling you have is normal convection on the water drops.
