I'm going to take a guess, and state that part of it comes from the remnants of IBM HDD's research division.

Sounds promising, but let's hope it doesn't get derailed, like FM radio was...

I read about this early last year in SCIAM I think. Pretty interesting stuff. If they can actually get it working... cheap RAM that is as fast as the SRAM that is in CPU L1 cache.... I like the sounds of that. Cheap solid state storage sounds good too.
