Just to pop the cherry...
I've got a 600watt PSU (24vdc/25amp) to power a 173Qmax 40x40mm peltier (24.7 volts 11.4 amps)
I am going to be cooling an Athlon 650. I AM going to hit 1.05ghz. My only fear is the 400watts of heat that I will be passing through my radiator. The problem is alleviated in part by a peltier controller which will control the voltage to the peltier based on temperature. So that curbs how much heat I am going to be putting off, as well as limit the occurence of condensation as this monster will not be pulling 173 watts of heat when my CPU is idling. Still all I got is a 15x5x1 radiator. I really think I need to consider some alternatives. Anyway, I'll let you all know how it goes when I finally do it. |

Funny.
I built a custom PSU (480 watts) 24V RMS at 10 A RMS (so 33.9 V at about 15 Amps).. I hooked up two 70 watt peltiers and got some below-zero temps.. however, I went out for a bit and left my machine on, and when I came back my CPU temp was about 35 C!! I looked inside to see if tehre was any damage.. a lot of scorched insulation and a toasted peltier.. wire melted. As for radiators, look at my post in the buy/trade/sell area... a good source for cheap radiators. Rich W. |

Ebay has some 550's with 750 cores in them that run at 950 with stadard hfs. They even come with the GFD. I have one that runs at 977 with just a P7125. It WILL run at at least 1050 once my watercooler/peltier is done.. FYI

You shouldn't need peltiers then. Just the watercooling.
My athlon 650 (don't know what core yet) stock everything will get into windows @ 850mhz then BSOD. With a better heatsink like yours and a jump to 1/3 (yeah 850 into windows with 1/2 cache dividor and stock cooling) I could prolly hit 900/950. I am beginning to think that I can hit 1.05 with watercooling alone. I'll have to see tho. take it easy shadow |

Remember what happened in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when Clark plugged in all the Christmas lights...the town nuclear power plant shorted out.....I see deja vu right around the corner
