I don't see any reason to sugar coat it; if someone is a ****ing idiot then that is what they are. But perhaps we are a bit quick to throw out allegations of stupidity or idiocy. Maybe simply pointing out what is incorrect in a review is more acceptable?
I dunno I mean we have been doing some good (a few of the worse writers have gotten fired from their reviewer jobs) but at the same time it just seems to be getting a little ridiculous. //edit: I am very afraid when I see people continue to vote for "porn site" after it was made clear that the pornography will be of me and Joe. That's just WRONG, man.

LOL!
Not sure if anyone cares but... The problem is that we need to be systematic about bashing a review. i.e. give a complete answer such as "this part was wrong, because of X and it should have read Y". That involves determining a proper structure for a review. That would be a starting point, but I don't see that happening anytime soon, so I expect it to stay the same, alas. Glad to see you bring up the topic though. I don't mind the threads; I use them to recruit more members. |

The way I see it, procooling is the only place that keeps these shit reviews honest. It goes back to that awful thread I started about choking the inlet (what a mistake, lol), tell it like it is is what I heard from that thread. And why should crap reviews be left unscathed? If they are left that way, what is to stop their reproduction over and over? Procooling must save the net from all the wretchedness! Well, pH and Joe, it is your forum...

//edit: To Ben: And so if these awful reviews continue after WBTA I can only conclude you are part of the problem and not the solution?
Also WTF another vote for Joe Kelly pr0n! //Edit: Alright Scott I'll grant you that I guess. But man it wears down on me sometimes. It also bothers me that large groups of people refuse to read information I put together FOR THEIR BENEFIT because of some squabble on the forums.

Well I guess perhaps one need look no further than Brazil for an answer to the dilemna Phaestus:
http://www.thenakedreview.com/ Although it appears that none of videos are now working. Time to take up the torch perhaps? Mix quality reviews with sex - something to get even Joe Sixpack worked up about? |

no no no. Was referring to Ben's comments about getting new members for the WBTA from Procooling review roastings
No complaints with you Scott. I wonder if maybe a page from SomethingAwful could again be useful: A ShitReview Repository with awful neon colors and constantly playing annoying music. Just move threads there when they go sour.

Wether they join or not is up to them
The opportunity is there, for those reviewers that want to learn (read: have an open mind). The WBTA is here to stay, I just need to add a lot more useful info to it. |

You know my luck? I start this thread and THEN that quote from Gruntville/Polarflo comes up about the waterblock that keeps die temperature constant while water temps rise. It's eating at my insides now I can tell you. I am out of beer too. I will soon snap; perhaps the world DOES need cantankerous assholes rather than a friendly open forum...

Most civil way of solving the problem is to compile scientific proof and present it politely as a correction, rather than a flame.

Yea but the standard approach is for us to make snide comments right here until eventually the author appears and gets indignant.

However, I agree with the general tone of your comments. I just posted on the PolarFLO TT Gruntville thread criticizing another goof review, again another flame war appears to be heating up there. But, I would have to say with folks like unregistered, this site is kinda stuck in a rut that way I think. The reason I mention unregistered is because he is pretty much always right in his arguments, and is prone to making some pretty earthy personal comments to people who are obviously technically wrong. Then its no longer about the review or watercooling, its about personal egos...and the flames sprout up, forest burns down, lawyers are called(!) etc. I think people here will always post bad reviews, and good ones too. The review of the C-System pump at systemcooling.com I thought was very good for instance. But what we need to do is make it less personal. Just because someone is not so informed in thermodynamics or testing methodology and insturmentation doesn't make them retards, it just makes them uninformed. Most of these guys are trying really hard, and are enthusiasts just like us. Just misinformed, or not informed at all. Now folks like that dork Liquid3D had it coming, but for the most part these are good guys who would probably like to do better if it didn't involve personal humiliation. We have more in common than uncommon. After all, I think most of us here are here to learn from other sometimes more informed people...at least thats why I'm here. |

C'mon pH, look at your sig, it says it all.
'Home of the big players' - how can you call yourself a big player if we sit here and brood about all the other poorer reviews on the net. That's what gets procooling well known to the members who follow the other sites - not because they type watercooling in google one day and we come up, but because we infest their forums like the plague. And with all due respect (and believe me, there's a lot of it) but this sounds all a bit weird from the guy who wrote: Quote:
I'm not saying I love the abuse, but I just realise that constructive criticism, is a must on procooling. We have to be outspoken, that's what a forums for, BUT I agree we should be more polite about it sometimes. And I also thing is brings the procooling community closer together if we can bitch as a family.... Last edited by cougem; 07-27-2004 at 04:12 AM. |

Risking to get whipped by several big players.. (which could be taped and used on forthcomming pornsite) We could set up a few basic pointers and rules which people could use to do better reviews. It's impossible for every little site out there to have testbenches like those people in here sports, but still a few ground rules to be kept.. and perhaps "education" could eliminate just a wee bit of the poor jobs done..

what about a seperate section of the forums here for review bashing, that only users are allowed to post or see....
maybe even go so far as to make a Good review and a Bad review section... and also try to promote users here at Procooling to submit more articles/get more staff to help with articles... EDIT: i voted for the p0rn |

I try to avoid personal things, but they take inaccuracies in their review personally. Also, it doesn't seem that anyone here wants to fix it - we want the reviewer to do the research on their own. Now, the question is, would you do research if you knew (or thought you knew) everything?

The "Many of whom are Big Players and making big money on 1/2" hoses" tag was given to the Procooling forums by some idiot at wizdforums. I thought it was hilarious though (as did Joe) and so he registered there as BigPlayer and me as pH-BigPlayer and we are taking the "bling bling" thing to its logical conclusions.
Did you notice the site and forum bylines in the top graphics? Ok I am assuming that if as many people want to see me and Joe naked as want us to stop flaming poor reviews than it is a wash. You guys might as well just carry on then
