Are fittings National coarse or National Fine? I will go get the tap and acrylic to finish this up over the weekend if I can tap it.

The acrylic tube I have is 1/8" thick, but since it is a tube I guess it has somewhat more threads than it would otherwise.
Neither - National (and Metric) Coarse and Fine are screw threads. Look middle of the linked page for NPT taper pipe sizes (note - they only have NPT and NPS pipe fitting sizes shown). 3/8 and 1/4 NPT and NPS have 18 threads per inch, so on that 1/8" acrylic you will get 2+ threads.

True, but it is still effective as an air trap because it is the highest point in the system. All extra air will end up at the top of my res, you just fill it to the brim. The fittings arent in the black end caps, they are drilled into the sides (about 1/2" up from the bottom and 1/2" down from the top of the black end caps).

pvc cement all the way. Never trust silicon to "glue" stuff together. Try again, I really like what you've done.

heres what im using next time around:

Solvent Cement is a clear syrup cement for high strength joints with excellent weather resistance. It contains Methyl Ethyl Ketone and Methylene Chloride. It is great for acrylic, polycarbonate, butyrate, and styrene. Item #43401 is a very thin methylene chloride and should be applied with a dropper or syringe

I think i have figured a way to turn one of these air traps into a very cool warp core for my borg case.
At the moment I don't have the cash, but you buys are welcome to try.

Materials
1. A lightning neon tube setup with the acrylic holder and kynar wire

2. the air trap

3. one way window tint film(like used in macro black http://www.bit-tech.net/article/63/7 )

instructions

1. puth the oneway film around he outside of the air trap so it is invisible wihout any light.

2.place the neon tube in the center of the airtrap and seal the edges so it looks like this
l l l l
l l l l
l l l l
l l l l
l l l l
l l l l
l_l l_l

the neon lightning going through the water and the film should make it look just like a warp core.
