Wouldn't the water flowing across the wires cause them to "bunch up", thereby reducing the efficiency of the set-up? Would it not work better if the water inlet was at the top, blowing down into the "forest" of wire?

Just some thoughts...

The wire's stiffer then it looks and doesn't seem to move much with the current flow that I'm getting.

The wire's profile to the water flow (by eye) looks to be similar from the side compared to the top since it's all tangled up so much, anyway it would be a simple procedure to mount a 1 inch fitting on the top if I wish to test that approach.

Default Nice Vortex

Just wondering if you are in the northern or southern hemisphere?
I noticed that you are rotating your vortex CCW. If you are in the northern hemisphere you are losing energy to the coriolus effect (or force if you prefer), albeit a small amount. In the pursuit of ultimate flow which I gather you are after, and if you do use a whirlpool mixer resevoir, spin CW in the northern hemisphere and CCW in the southern for the most OOMMMFFF!!

Very nice! Refreshing design too. I guess I'm like you in the sense that I take the brute force approach too.
Here are some of my blocks. 5/8 inches too.

And a 3000L/hr pump.

I didn't buy the pump on line, i got it from a local aquarium shop, it looks exactly like a seltz L40 (same specs) but mine is called a Resun SP-6800, weather it's a cheap rip off or simply re-named I don't know.

You can control the size of the twister to some degree by changing the size of the hole in the bottom, a smaller hole will make the twister taller (up to a point) or if you find the twister wanting to overflow your cylinder you make the hole larger. An in system flow of 400GPH should give you a nice twister, just have to expriment a bit, get a feel for what flow will create what sized twister.

you know there's a problem when your g/f comes over and wants to get it on, and you get annoyed because she's interupting your WC work. ...I had to break it off w/ her. It was just too much.

yeah, mine was too... or at least she tried to be interested, which was very cool of her. But still, she kept calling me in the middle of my projects. She didn't understand why I didn't want to talk on the phone while I was lapping a block... she didn't understand that that meant being covered in copper....

..."I wanna kuddle...", she says. "I wanna get up and go bleed my lines", I say. Definite conflict of interest. ...I used her boobies as a periscope.... hehe. She thought it wazs pretty funny. .

..guys, I';m relaly drunk right now. I'm gonna stop correctlying myself everytinme I mistype something, becasue it is relaly hap[ening alot. There waws this chick at the bar... total cutie. I've wanted this girl for the longest time (and she digs me, too) and i'm moving in like a week in a half to DC, which is far away, so ther'es no time like the present to hit on her. (she just happens to be from DC... sha-wing.... ) Trouble is, we're so differnet. She like hippyish, and I'm mister accountant... (not a geek, mind you.... [edit: well, at least I say as much, as I sit here alone in my condo at 2:30 AM, drunk, and totaloly without chicks...]) ..but I digress.. I figuer I've got a week to bone her. Wish me luck.

...i wish the g/f i had when I was preoccupied with my WC setup was in town right now...
