Hey bladerunner I really like your idea on your hdd block I have been to your website and like your stuff. Im going to try and make somthing like your hdd block. The only thing is I see how you solder the bottem peace on but when you put the top peace on you can only solder the outside how do you make it so it wont leak.

First thing to remember when you are soldering two pieces of copper is that you MUST TIN the areas you want to bond together. (TINing is the process of putting a thin layer of solder on the copper, just as you would be soldering something, but you are just coating it. In case you didn't already know.)
THEN put them together and apply the torch until the TIN melts and solders the two pieces together. With copper as big as that, it will take a LOT of heat. Use an old UNPAINTED board to put the pieces on so they are insulated and the heat will build up quicker. Hope that helps... ![]()

I think MMZ_TimeLord has covered it
![]() http://www.zerofanzone.co.uk/project...acudaiv&page=3 As stated the block is soldered together in one go, (the previous images in this topic were just dry assembly shots). Another thing I've learned. It is very important to note you must have a escape hole in the block somewhere before you solder it, (anything will do, a barb hole, or smaller starter hole if you are not exactly sure where you want the barb hole), or the hot gas pressure will build up inside and possibly cause the solder not to fully seal in places as it cures. Experience counts I guess ![]() Last edited by BladeRunner; 10-18-2003 at 03:03 PM. |
