I think people might not be seeing the overall picture here. Remember, the "enthusiast" market is pretty small compared to the OEM market. Watercooling may become (has already become?) "mainstream" with regard to the "enthusiast" market, but we don't represent the real driving force behind chip manufacture. Seeing prebuilt watercooling kits like those offered by koolance isn't really a sign of watercooling going mainstream, any more than prometria setups are a sign of phase-change going mainstream. The guys who'd drool over the token watercooled setup on display at Fry's (and the even smaller number who would actually pay for it) just don't have the influence of, say, Dell.
Remember, the reaction of most people (that I've met, at least) when you tell them you're watercooling your case is surprise that anyone would do such a thing. "Isn't that more dangerous/unsafe/troublesome than it's worth?" |

The way I see it, there are several local builders that are differentiating themselves by putting WC in their high end systems. Yes, they are aimed at the power user/gamer kind of systems, but that sort of thing spreads trends. Everything that works for the local builders (differentiation that drives sales) eventually finds its way into an OEM system.
Dell and the like, while representing a significant part of the market in volume, don't drive what people want. An OEM can rarely do that. Far from driving the mainstream market desires, they are the players capitalizing on it with volume. OEMs are always a step behind what people want, and always playing catch-up. It's not cost-effective for them to differentiate themselves too much until after the demand is already present in the market. It is the local builders and specialty shops that find and prove the demand before then. In other words, an OEM won't integrate an idea until AFTER it is mainstream, and certainly not until it is old news to the enthusiast market. |

![]() When AMD and Intel start recommending water cooling for their CPU's then it is mainstream. Untill then it is an after market mod. Last edited by jaydee116; 04-25-2004 at 02:17 PM. |

that would be the beginning of main stream then? Toshiba unveils thin Portege laptop that sports water-cooled processor or mebe Hitachi Introduces a Water-Cooled Laptop what about NEC Develops World's First Water-Cooling Module with Piezoelectric Pump for Notebook PC need more? Google it.
