Looks like some DNS problems this morning. Also another switch over on Wendsday. Check your boxes after words!

- We are having some DNS problems, which are being worked on as we speak. We apologize for any inconvenience; please try to fold offline for now until things are back to normal.

- As we are nearing the completion of the current protein, we will be switching to Protein L on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 11:00 am EST. Please try to upload buffered results before then in order to free up more bandwidth on the day of the update.

Ey, Jaydee or someone else, does anyone know how much download a client needs in a month?

A friend of mine has infinite upload, but only 100 mb download per monh, and he will not install a client without knowing how much download it takes...

100mb? Sheesh, I do that in a day just browsing forums. It doesn't use much downloading. Everytime it uploads results it will check for updates which can add up if you have an always on connection. It would be best if he only uploaded once a week on that severly restricted line. if he does that he will have to keep an eye on when the updats happen as you only have 48hrs to upload any results after an update or they don't count.

ok, do you mean that the client only downloads updates, does not download "work"?

Right, The "work" is already downloaded. Every month or so they will change the "work" which is in the form of an update. The "work" is a protein which the client uses to create the work unit in the form of 250 generation. This all done on your computer so there is no units to download after you upload.

This isn't like SETI or g@home or f@home where you download work, process it, and then upload it.

Can't belive they got a 100mb cap? I download a megabyte of ads and images just loading up the front page on some sites.

Yes and No. We are all using the same protein, but the work is defined by how the client processes it. If you have noticed Generation 0 takes a while (about 2-3hrs on my comps) and that is the generation the rest of the 250 generation are based on.

And it is a good thing if there are duplicate results as that is what they are trying to achieve if I understand it correctly. The more similar the results the more progress they are making. They are trying to "match" an already completed and mapped protein with this "simulator" client. Once the client can match this protein properly then it will be able to start on non pre-mapped proteins and then that is where the real work starts to happen.

In other words the current client is basically a "beta" client. What we are doing now is stream lining it to perfection before any real work on other proteins is completed. Which we will all being doing once the client is acceptable to do this.

This is an extreamly important thing we are doing which some are incapable of understanding. A lot of people quit the project a while ago because they discovered we are not doing any "real" work on proteins (yet) like Folding@home is doing. What they fail to understand is it takes a lot of resources and power to make a client work as good and accurate as it can. Once this client is streamlined it will kick the hell out of Folding@home for quality of results. Without the effort we are putting in now none of this would be possible.

JayDee,

I tried swaping a sound card into the PCI slot and it didn't work.

R.I.P.

At any rate her system still is running just fine as she had a PCI that was not in use anyway.

I just hope no more die.........hmmmmmmmm that would mean....... NF2?

How we going to get the production to replace him, and more importantly, totally crush his new team?

Fire up those machines people! We need the equivalent of at least six more fast ones folding 24/7.

Joe,
I'll bet some days you have to wonder why you started this site. but I"m very glad you did. I also hope Bill comes back around.

Groth,

Well I got my daughters system (faster than mine) started folding just the other day. Guess it was just in time.

I find tha JD going to AMDMB's folding team a bit ironic. He's said several times he no longer even likes that site as it's gone to sh!t.

After reading that post I guessed that was where he'd go. We were about to pass them. His way of a precieved pay back I guess.

Don't make blind assumptions. I went back to amdmb because that is where I started DF and I am apart of the SETI team there and apart of the Folding@home team there. The teams have the best people of the entire site.

And I also see that there is no level of respect/loyalty for members here after what you all did to LiquidRulez. Pretty pathetic....

I will be working some magic to make up for this I think.... Yes... I think that will be happening. I happen to know about 25 Dell 2800Mhz P4 (800mhz buss) machines waiting for a few days of folding love...

Well as I often read a couple of the forums over at AMDMB I was refering to what I'd seen you yourself post regarding that site, not my own views of it. I've found the audio forum interesting, a number of guys there are quite good at sound systems.

And I also see that there is no level of respect/loyalty for members here after what you all did to LiquidRulez. Pretty pathetic....
What "we" did? LOL!

His several errors regarding, correctly shipping to the right addy, maintaining communications with his customer by e-mail or PM and not tracking the shipment were indeed pathetic.

Yet here you lurk. LOL!

Best of luck, I hope you find a site you enjoy.

edit:

As to AMDMB, I was refering to what I'd seen you post, more than once regarding that site, not my outlook. I read the news on thier front page & a couple of the forums areas as well.

Right, I guess reality went right over your head. Only a partial bit of the whole story was in that thread. You are the king of blind assumptions though as is a lot of people around here. Also he got jumped all over BEFORE anything was even brought to light. You guys judged first and asked questions later. Real ****ing nice way to treat a member that has added a lot of quality information in the past. At least give him the benifit of the doubt before hanging him.

I never said I was leaving this site all together dude. Another assumption? Being Joe failed to want to discuss what was going on and decided to close the thread, even though he made that forum spacifically for what was going on in that thread?!?, I can see you could make that assumption so it is not a blind one at least.

I also find it amusing your now attacking my character because I choose to leave the team. Sure was a different tune before you realized I left.

Good luck with the team guys.

Like I said before JD, I hope you find a site you like and that meets your expectations.

As to your lurking and sniping, sad. Seek for a fight elsewhere.

Well you didn't have to keep responding immediatly. I can wait a day. Anyway that thread is just a partial reason why I decided to move on. Also that lan site looks pretty good. Nice work on the coding and layout.

Lurking and sniping BE? LOL a guy can't respond to him being slammed now? Thats the exact behavior I would expect from you though. Whatever dude. Making no sence...

I kinda lost the respect for liquidRulez when he decided not to share his design with the forum.
Althout i do agree i have jumped on him 2 hard on that trade without knowing the full story. Right now i will not pronounce about it since i dont know both sides of the story.

Jaydee, i do agree Gengoku didnt compreend your jokink post.
But this was probably caused by you being famous by having a bit of a 'harsh behavior' like i stated sometimes...

On the other end, i find amusing the bashing billas does to ben, they kind of get along with it, and adds some fun to the forums!

Dont know what else to say.
