insulation ?
hi all
i have a two peltier p2 350 setup(watercooled)at 506mhz and the temp is about -24.5 that means i got trouble with condensation i insulated the whole thing but there is still to much condensation ideas anyone ?????? claymore |

an option may be to keep it all insulated but to seal your case so its air tight then find a small dehumidifier to attach to it then you wouldn't haveto worry about condensation.

If your pc's cold enough to build condensation it won't matter if its airtight except if other components are overheating but any cool air given off by the pelts should help with that or just put pelts on your video card and stuff

There was only 1 design I liked that was possible for this. Build a sealed case ( Truly sealed as in air and water tight ) Fill the case with Argon or some inert gas so it is completely dry and there isn't any moisture left ( there will always be a little, but replacing the air with dry Argon really helps alot ). Then have a an Air conditioning loop ( cooled by pelts or freon or something ) and circulate the dry argon in the case with fans through this in case a/c system. You don't need to be too worried about noise cause in a completely sealed case noise would be very low.
The costs and how delicate the system will be makes it not practical, but it would defeat condensation and you could chill yer entire case down COLD. ------------------ C-ya Joe |

Yes Argon is a good gas for this its not flamable , and it is Inert, One thing you for got Joe If ya breath The gas

Well... Oh Damn! wussy
OC is a hard core hobby, some people will die now and then also it will be a sealed "computer tank" at that point. Helium would also work. and could give you a high pitch voice if you take a "hit" off yer PC I got it.. the COMPU-BONG! ------------------ C-ya Joe |

You might be on too somthing Joe. Helium sounds really cool. You would just have too make a Plastic case with a big O-ring / Gasket on the top so it would seal,
Well any way seeya ,LR |

Yeh Helium would escape very easily. hehehe if I catch you doing this Liquid Rad, I will be DAMN amazed

just a thought I had. but could you maybe Use Silica Gel (those little packets they put in with new shoes to keep them dry) to assist with insulation. Maybe by putting packets of silica gel between layers of insulation to absorb any stray moisture. I don't know if this would work but its just a thought I had.

Silica Gel makes Argon seem like Candy. Silica Gel is DANGEROUS to be in dust form, if it gets into your system its not good. Also it does have a limit to how much moisture it can absorb and after a day or so of running forcing air around it it would be used up.

I have a website which describes one way to handle condensation. I have completely enclosed the peltier/waterblock/CPU in 5/8" layers of insulation, sealed with beads of silicone, and enclosed in a Radio Shack 'Project Box'. It works well and condensation is zero at -55F. The site is http://learn.to/christekcool/
Hope this is of some help. Good luck. Chris @ chrismb1@juno.com |

You could use some spray foam, but that's permanent and often expands too much and shifts things around. 2Cooltek sells some adhesive foam, and that's what I use.

this topic is to much
to kill the condensation you might try a heating element around the chip, this way the chip gets cold and the surrounding is kept warm, vapochill uses this principle to reduce condensation with their setup, it would take nothing more than a wire off an old heater, with low voltage applied it shouldn't scorch anything (i.e. put a potentiometer on it so you can adjust it ) well, have fun Cryo |

Head on over to Home Depot and experiment with some different types of insulation. Fun part of watercooling with peltiers is coming about the best solution on your own. A little hint, Home Depot sells Armiflex closed cell foam with adhesive backing on one side. It's easy to cut. Easy to use. And it's designed specifically to stop condensation on pipes, which means, it would work perfect in your setup. I have used it in many places on my motherboard, cpu, and videocard. Good luck.

Just use the di-electric grease, con-formal coating and neoprene trick. Works perfectly!

Also might wanna hit up a local arts and craft shop for foam stuff, like Foamies(TM) products.

some numbers about gas..
gas / thermal conductivity /heat storage(???) fluor____________176______0.82 hydrogen_________174_____14.3 helium___________144______5.1 oxigen____________25______0.92 air_______________24______1.0 argon_____________16______0.52 carbondioxide_____14______0.82 freon12____________8.5____0.06 water____________600______4.18 copper________390000______0.37 aluminium_____237000______0.88 btw the font used is "Fixedsys".. for a closed rig setup hydrogen would be ideal.. much heat absorbtion and conductivity helium would also be good.. only with less heat absorbsion and its non-flamable.. but in my setup i'm gonna use carbondioxide.. how? i'll start out with pure oxigen.. make a window in my comp.. and rip some plants off the window-sill and put em next to my cdrom and psu.. then i only have to wait.. You are going to use pure O2??? Ok bud, well it was nice knowing you.
you get one spark and the possibility of it finding something it could combust with is VERY high. the pure O2 will support an exposive combustion. CO2 is fine though. Also using pure O2 will help Oxidize the metals in the case rapidly. ------------------ C-ya Joe - Owner/Editor www.ProCooling.com Where the Completely Addicted Come to Cool Off Somebody set up us the bomb. |

Umm.. You don't get carbon dioxide by putting plants in a pure oxygen environment, you get dead plants. Plants need carbon dioxide, and create oxygen.

blah
i forgot plants make o2 instead of co2 well then i'll breath in my case till its full hehe btw joe, h2 is VERY explosive.. (think about the hindenburger) my idea was to create a box round my slotket with low press-gas with low thermal conductivity.. like co2.. H2 is flammable.
But... The hindinburg burned so rapidly due to the Al. dust filled paint they used on the surface. The hydrogen only play'd an after effect once the skin was buringing. and Your breath still contains a majority of Nitrogen and Oxygen and a bit of CO2 ( why do you think that if you blow on a spark in some brush to get fire? cause the O2 you are exhale'n is more then the CO2. To even try this you would need to go to a welders supply, and get a tank of industrial CO2 ( which is now regulated as a green house gas ) and try that. ------------------ C-ya Joe - Owner/Editor www.ProCooling.com Where the Completely Addicted Come to Cool Off Somebody set up us the bomb. |
