My water cooled Shuttle Sn45 Finished! (no 56k)
Hi
This is my second attempt at water cooling my shuttle sn45, I started with a crappy thermal take kit aquarius2 that while a couple of degrees cooler, was way louder than the panaflow fan L1, I had before. So I sold it and moved on…till I saw the C-systems pump. I ordered it and a swiftech Block, and a Danger Den Radiator, and proceeded to water cool my shuttle. I posted a thread for advice quite a while ago….here is the project 99% finished. I am still waiting on an X-ice GPU block. The T-fill is going to migrate to the top of the machine on the left side. My temps are good, down from high 50’s under load to low 40’s under load. Front shot custom faceplate with stealthed DVD burner: Back Grills removed: Side shot X-ice GPU: Fill and bleed valve: PSU side: Fill and bleed in action: CPU block-Tight fit: Loop test: Running the tubes: Fan/Rad: One concern I have is the return line from the CPU block to the rad, I had to go way out in a big loop to prevent kinking the tubes, do you think that loop is a flow stealer? Might try to make it smaller....Do you think I would see a preformance increase form doing so? EDIT for new pix Last edited by mikehotel; 07-10-2004 at 12:09 PM. |

One thing I forgot to mention, is that on the video card side, I have a 70mm fan acting as a intake, drops the temps quite a bit, cools the northbridge and ram, feeds the rad cooler air. |

very nice to see a shuttle system. how is the pump working for you? i'm seriously considering getting one of those for my pc (not a shuttle, just like the looks of the pump) p.s. please resize those pics!!

Off topic, but looks like your R9800P 256MB is flashable to XT
http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx...var1=92&var2=0 Personally, I find the stock HSF on the video card quite noisy. Any pics of the entire setup with the case closed? |

Thanks for the heads up on the card, but it was the reason I got it...I spent 260.00 and got a XT! The fan is so annoying, I can't wait for my water block! I will post some pictures when I get it it finished.

Well, just added the X-ICE GPU block to the loop. What is a "good" temp for a 9800 pro 256 XT? sitting @ 60 right now (idle) With the overdrive on. Had to drop the side intake fan, but my temps didn't rise much at all. The tubing was in the way, and I dropped the fan and sent one it's blades to fan heaven. Here are some more pic's. Resized for the screen size challenged. I only have 1 panaflow going now...sweet silence.

Must be the angle of the camera, the block is dead on the GPU block. You can see the shim, maybe that's why it appears that way. It's keeping the gpu @ 60 idle and 63 at load.

With that current block and a pretty good pump already in hand, you should be lower than 60C Might I suggest another fan for the rad? Is the rad too small for cooling both GPU and CPU? Can you get a 2nd rad in there going out the side perhaps in a 2nd loop for the GPU?
Forgive the questions if you are quite happy with the case, 60C is fine, but I was thinking with some simple tweaks it may be more efficient.

I have 2 fans right now, but one is a side intake, I am going to order a another panaflow and go push pull on the rad. and drop the side fan. I think you are right though, the rad is the limiting factor in my cooling set up, bigger rad=more surface area for heat exchange to happen. I have some fans here, I'll give it a go.. they are the light up kind don't move a lot of air. I don't think a side rad is possable, may be a top blow hole with a rad but I would need to to mega case cutting...maybe a rear 80 to 20 adaptor on the rad? Do fans need to be the same type/CFM to go push pull? I would think yes so no turbulance is created. -MKH

Pulled the 70mm side intake fan and moved a old 80mm fan to the outside, push pull brought my temps down a couple degrees, I just ordered 2 new high-flow panaflows with RPM monitoring 48 CFM to replace the current medium flow one I have in there now. Crappy LED fan brought my GPU temp down to 55 and CPU to 40. Thanks for the pointer...I had always heard that push pull worked best on radiators, but I wanted to go full internal. Guess due to the restrictive nature of the radiator, to get the best possible heat exchange, you need to force a lot of air thru the radiator.

I did the 120 today, looks silly on the back of my shuttle, like a civic with a huge "Ricing" wing. Good temps however.

I was surfing around today and i caught this review of the Kingwin Artic Liquid Cooler that includes both cpu and gpu blocks. Its a pretty low end setup, but for $99 it seems like it size would be a perfect fit inside a sff case. It uses 1/4 tubing has 2 rads (one fits on 80mm fan mount other is in 5 1/2 drive bay main unit)

My 9800XT 256 Pro sits at 57 idle and 63 under load. My 2500 Barton overclocked to a 3200 @ 2.2mhz sits at 42 idle and 50 under load. I don't have anyway to temp monitor my water. BUT my machine is silent compared to before. Loseing that fan from the video card was worth the time and effort.
