Default 1100 drops network

We have a couple of 2000's that are now humming along thanks to this forum.
Now - we have an 1100 that we use for misc backups. It drops the network connection overnight. We use it all day but come in the next morning and have to reset it. We reset via the web software and works great all day again. I removed the case thinkig the fan was stopping but it is still running.
Snap 1100
Hardware vs 2.0.2
Software vs. 3.4.790

Any ideas?

Try a different port on the router/switch.

Nothing shows up on the server log except the restart. No errors.

I have tried 3 different ports on the server. The 2 Snap 2000's are connected to the same server.

Thought it might be the work stations dropping the connection (XP timing out - increased it in Reg to no limit)

I leave my 1100 on 24/7 and it never looses connect, try this, power a workstation down overnight, and in the morning power it up and see if you can hit the web interface of the snap.

In practice we have tried this. Here's what we do. I work from a docked laptop which I take home each night. Next morning I power up and reset the 1100 via the web. There is another desktop that does not power down which I have checked. It looses connection also.
Here's a tidbit. We have multi-user Quickbooks (2 should be able to work from the same file). When this file resided on the 1100 only one could access it at a time. Moved the file to one of the 2000's and it can now be accessed by multiple users. Don't know how or why.
I plan on trying a simple check tonight - swapping the cable. Have been using the new one supplied with the unit.

The 1100 is running OS 3.4.790

Both 2000's are running 2.4.441

OS 2.4.441 is the only OS I have on disk for re-install, etc.

You need to make a image file of the 1100 so you have a way to restore/setup if a HD fails. Instructions in the wiki section.

Well, the different cable made no difference. Anyone have any other ideas?

I will copy the disk image - thanks for the heads up.

I would try reinstalling the OS, but that will be difficult without the sup files.

The only CD I have is OC 2.4.441 for the 2000's.
Will it work on the 1100?

It will not allow you to backup major releases.

The OS's are interchangeable between models. The sup file contains all of the files needed for different models.

This is liosted in the error log this morning - before I arrive. What is it and can it be causing the dropped network connection?

You will see this every time a snap is not properly shut down. When you reboot the server does it do a normal shut down? Or goes off instantly?

It is restarted via the web - not the manual button.
I just restarted via the web and that's the message received again.

that's wierd, try this, go over to the snap. push the power button on the back and release as you would normally. you should then see the system light start flashing. It should flash 3 times and then wait a moment and then repeat It should do this several times. This indicates the unit is shutting itself down normally. see if it does this or if it just goes off and restarts.

OK - I did a manual shut down. Pressed the button and got the 3 rapid flashes, several times, then the snap shut down. Waited and restarted using the manual button. Reviewed the web log and it has the same entry as previously noted.

that's strange, Could indicate a problem on the horizon. Back up the data to another location just to be safe.

These are normal startup checks. The snap goes through a fsck everytime it boots. Since it is only a single drive it only show 10000. If it's a 2000 in raid 1 you will see checks on 10006 & 10016 then 50000.

If you think you are having drive problems. Backup the data and run Spinrite on it. It will show what kind of shape the drive is in.

thought it was only when the server was not shut down properly. According to your previous post anyway

That's was what I thought, but it's a built in file system check.

Look at your log on your new 2200, you will see the same type of checks.

Just to close the loop on this - in case anyone out there experienced the same. Upgraded to 3.4.805 and the "dropping network" problem went away. Solid as a rock now. Have since upgraded to a 250GB drive and it is humming right along. Thanks to this forum.
