Default Win XP Start menu takes too long to load...

Okay my grandpa's computer is running fine (in fact i'm on his AOL account right now writing this message). I'm very happy w/ his $425 (including Windows XP full version) computer, but when Windows loads, the start menu hangs for a while. What I mean by this is that the taskbar and all the junk down on the bottom of the screen loads up, but when I try to click something there, my mouse turns into an hourglass right as I move the mouse over the bar. It takes a couple minutes for the taskbar/startmenu to get to normal. Why is this happening? I don't remember it happening when I first built the computer. I know the CPU is relatively slow (C3 750), but the hanging is odd. HELP! X-mas eve (when we exchange family presents) is just a few days away!

Maybe this'll help, maybe not.

This basically reduces start time by 30 seconds. I don't know if this is your problem, but it sounds like it might be trying to load the power profile a little late, and this will load it earlier.

Hope it helps.

It does speed load time up a bit. However, it doesn't solve the problem of the hanging start menu. It just sorta hangs. I can move the mouse around freely and click stuff, but the damn start menu honestly takes over a minute to load AFTER XP is fully loaded. I'm going to search on the net a bit for help. LMK if you have any other ideas.

Oddly enough, I searched the net for some Windows XP tweaks. I did a bunch of memory tweaks in the registry and now this thing boots up super fast . Woohoo! No start menu hang!
