Nexus Prolong. Ever use it?
I hear Nexus makes a pretty cool item call the "prolong" that will keep your CPU cooler running for 5 miniutes afer you shut down your computer, keeping your CPU cool. Seems like a great item if your worried about CPU temps after shutdown. Anyone have one of these? I'm curious if its worth getting.
Thanks!

Re: Nexus Prolong. Ever use it?
I think I've seen this device before, from what I can tell it's basically a battery to keep your CPU fan spinning after you turn your computer off. When you shut your computer off and the fan stops spinning the heatsink is still warm until the heat radiates off it naturally meaning that your CPU could be hot for a while after you turn the computer off. Personally I think its BS though, not something I would buy or think that it could help extend the life of my hardware. Maybe someone should do some actual testing (if not done already) with a digital thermometer and a probe right next to the CPU to see if it ever at a dangerous temperature after the fan stops and the CPU is off. I'm thinking that it's at a healthy temperature right before the fan is off and if heating and cooling BOTH stop, it couldn't get any hotter.

Re: Nexus Prolong. Ever use it?
I think your probably right about it being BS. I bet the CPUs out right now can take more heat than most people think. It would be interesting to see just how hot the CPU and the base of the heatsink are after the power is off. I'll see if I can dig up a review on it.

Speedfan will continue to monitor CPU temps during sleep/standby mode, where the CPU is depowered. CPU temps immediately begin to fall and reach near ambient within minutes. So, yes, BS.
