before I buy a heater core...

Before I buy a Heater Core I have a few questions. If I am going to modify the barbs to become .5" does it matter what size the barbs currently are, or if there is an ideal size to make things easier on me? You guys got any suggestions for a heatercore that will fit 1 120mm fan on each side of the rad, this will go in an external box. Maybe even 2 120mm fans each side.

For heatercores, most of the time you'll have to cut off the tubes and fit your own barbs. Replacing them is easy: if you soldered them on, desolder them; if you JB Welded them, rip them off

Most heatercores can fit a 120mm fan on each side. If you want big, then just look for a heatercore from a big car :P.

This is a great choice imo: http://www.heatercore4u.com/2-558.htm . It is a little thicker than most (2.5"), both inlet and outlet barbs are short and in the right place and are 5/8". BTW you can stretch 1/2" over these barbs without a hitch. More pressure drop and less work.

If you are going to use an external box, have you considered a Negative Pressure setup? I am trying to make one soon : http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...&threadid=5543 (new pics coming soon, I just got done modeling the above mentioned heater core).

I am sure that you have checked out Dteks heatercore w/ 1/2" barbs already installed.

Were you looking for; a much larger heatercore or just wanting to have it be a DIY type of job?

actually the dtek core is a little restrictive due to 1/4"NPT inlet/outlet. at least 3/8"NPT is a good size for barbs when using 1/2"ID tubing. you might want to think about that before getting it.

Wouldn't it be better to slow the flow down in the radiator, so as to get rid of the heat?

The size of the barbs will not effect the speed of the water through the radiator, it will however add to the many items in your loop that will slow the total flow of the system.

I know I said it before but the hc i recomended above seems perfect for the situation.

If you get a core with 5/8 tube (and I believe many if not most do) you can just strech tube over it. Plus you get less flow restriction due to the large barbs.

In a wrecking yard it Shouldnt cost you more than $20 to $30 or maybe even cheaper if you seach around a little
