Silicone is BAD BAD BAD
IF its RTV it more then likely has Acetic acid and will corrode metal components on the board and eat the innards of your pelt. It also is water vapor permeable during drying so it in reality Doesn't seal, it will make the air spaces by the core actually very moist and humid. Urethane ( Goop) is stronger, more rigid when it drys, and does not "pump" water vapor into the air spaces. I made the same mistakes before I got enlightened by some readers of procooling as to why RTV is evil. Conformal Silicone is good to seal as it doesn't contain RTV and it should be sealing a surface so you don't need to worry about any water vapor build up. Use what you want, but temp variation isn't that important as Urethane Goop can withstand close to the same tolerances. How often you going to be running yer CPU at 400DegF? or -40?? ( if you are going to -40C you are going to do some extremely serious insulation with better materials then Urethane and Silicone. ------------------ C-ya Joe - Owner/Editor www.ProCooling.com Where the Completely Addicted Come to Cool Off Somebody set up us the bomb. Use silicone to seal yer board, yer insulation stuff, Yer coolant hoses, vibration dampening, but not to secure something like you are talking. Silicone is too weak to hold yer cold plate on the core
