BeerCan this has been the case for some time now, 3 years or so. Iwaki will offer most MD (WMD) pumps in DC, however check out the FAQ on their site for the MD... part of it reads:

"Can I get these pumps in DC Voltages?

DC motors are available for most models, especially in the 40 and below series. Minimum order quantity of 250 units usually applies."

You gonna buy 250 units? The RD series are still better IMO and smaller and in the long run, less expensive.

You know that 250 unit thing makes me wonder.

Would this require a buy of 250 of the DC MD pumps......or would they be glad to supply them as part of a order of differant types over the course of a year to one of the distributers they have?

I know of this sort of minimum yearly purchase in other areas of retail, so this may also be the case here.

It would seem to me they'd be really limiting sales of this product if you have to order a minimum of 250 per order. Not many even in industry or major retail are going to have use for so many.

Custom Aquatic is a major retailer of Iwaki pumps of all sizes to the aquarium hobbyists and industry. I wonder if they could get one of these for you as a custom order and as part of the normal volume of bussiness they do with Iwaki.

It might be worth contacting them to see. Worst thing that can happen is they say, "Sorry we can't help you".

250 pumps, for say the MD20RZ with 12v motors, should be doable with enough people in the watercooling market willing to buy them to justify it. Problem would be the initial ordering overhead. Depends on what terms one could nut out with Iwaki and what the whole-sale price was. If the whole-sale price worked out to around $100US per pump then while a pretty sizeable investment to ask for them to be ordered, I'm pretty sure there'd be enough customers to buy them all at say $130US each, but it'd probably be cutting it close with regards to market demand and pricing. I could foresee easily selling 100 such pumps, but 250 is something that while it would sell eventually, the pricing will hold a lot off people off for a long time, and if a better and cheaper pump comes along in the mean-time, well then you're hosed.

It's a bit of a tough call.
