I'm trying to get a small block of ceramic honeycomb for a special project, but apparently it is a fairly scarce product. Even ebay's got nothing. There are a couple manufacturers, but as far as I can tell, they don't do direct sale of single units.
Here are the requirements: 1) Low pressure drop 2) No toxic coatings 3) Square or circular/ellipsoidal face 4) ~ 60x60mm - 120x120mm face area 5) 60mm - 180mm depth What is they best way of going about getting a sample from a manufacturer? -or- Are there any commercial products that use ceramic honeycomb that can be cannibalized? Catalytic filters? ![]() ![]() Last edited by koslov; 11-11-2005 at 11:12 PM. |

Are you looking for ceramic in particular? You can get aluminum or kevlar honey-comb really easily.
What is the project?

Thanks for the reply.
The ceramic honeycomb would be the heating element in a forced air heating system. Ceramic is necessary because it is critical that no toxic metals (e.g. aluminum) be used in the airpath. Besides honeycomb, another option is using bored ceramic blocks or rods with small holes for the airpath. But unless such a thing is available pre-machined, I don't have the capability to do it myself. |

Dony use Cat. components, as they are laiden with heavy metals, and used ones are laiden with lots of other bad shit.

are you making an "aroma therapy device"?
If so, glass would be better by far. Definitely go with glass for aroma therapy vaporizers.

At this point, I should probably explain a bit more to prevent further confusion. The heating element would function as follows (simplified): Electric heaters (similar to those used in die sims) are mounted to the outside of the honeycomb block/rod. Fans push air into the block and clean, hot air comes out the other side. A hairdryer basically, except without contaminants in the airstream. Unless the glass is borosilicate (pyrex), the glass would probably crack at the required temps. Even using borosilicate, you probably can't find anything with an efficient geometry. Dear sir
I am working for SamYoung CLT which is a manufacturer of Ceramic tower packings and honeycomb. I am very interested in your project. And why don't you send me your specification of honeycomb (chemical composition and dimention and cell density). If the honeycomb which you need is in stock, I can send you one. My e-mail address is 'ceramic@syclt.com'. Best regards S.H.Chin |
