Default evil computer

allright...
my computer is evil incarnate...

after installing my watercooling badly and frying my first processor (a 1.6ghz palomino) i got a new one (a 1.47ghz throughbred). so i go and hook everything up and all the fans turn on and everything, but i get nothing up on the screen. i tried the integrated graphics (nforce 1 abit nv7m) and my xfx geforce 4 4200. i am very sure that the waterblock is touching the processor this time. i am thinking that maybe the nv7m default bios does not support the throughbred core, but shouldent it show something?
anyone have any suggestions on how to make it work?
thanks...

Assuming that your mobo is setup correctly...

Does it post? Can you get to the BIOS?

I am thinking that your thinking is probably right

Most likely your MB does NOT support that type of chip. I had that problem when I tried to drop a Palimino 1800+ into an Abit KT7A. The board even with the lastes BIOS would NOT reconize the chip. I eventually had to rip my Tbird 1.4 out of my Abit KG7 and swap the processors. Both boards worked fine then

I suspect that the nForce1 chipset just doesnt know how to work with the Tbreds at all.

Sorry

EDIT: I could swap you chips if you want? I have that Palimino 1800+ that I would swap you for that Tbred.

Just found more proof of what I was saying earlier.

Tbreds + Older MB dont mix
Sorry.

Still up for that trade?

allright. i think that the nv7m will support the thoroubred(spelling...) core, but only with the latest bios update. (see here )

soooo....

is there any way to flash the bios when the computer wont boot? if not, its not the end of the world, i am planning on building a new computer with a nforce 2 mobo (a7n8x) soon and the 1700+ will go very well in there. i apreciate your offer though.

thanks guys.

That newer bios MIGHT just allow you to use that chip. But you will have to get another chip that the board WILL support to be able to flash the BIOS to the newer one. See if a firend of yours has a chip sitting around that you can borrow to flash the new BIOS. OR you could even take the board into a local computer shop and ask to borrow one of theirs to get it flashed up. They might charge you a few dollars but it beats getting a new MB.
