SNAP Server Disk Config
I have a SNAP Server 2000 set up for RAID 0,1 and one of the hard drives has appeared to have failed. Unfortunately I didn't realized this for a few months because I forgot to change my stored email notification address. The status message mentioned the drive failing and Disk 1 being orphaned. When I checked the status Drive 1 showed failed with no space available. The other drive shows as "Mirror - Data Protection Disk data protection disabled, Backup disk failed. Primary Disk OK"
I was about to replace the disk when I saw a note about formatting the drive can restore it. So I formatted Disk 1 and it now shows OK will all the space available. The issue I now have is I can't get back to RAID 0,1. The status log for the Mirror disks shows "1 member missing in logical device (Original ID: 50000)", "Logical set member 0 not found" (Original device ID: 50000). When I go to the configure disk tab it tells me that the disk configuation can not be changed and that I should call tech support. I have backed up the important data to a DVD disk. What do I need to do to get this back to working RAID 0,1. ? The unit gas the original Quantum 20GB fireball drives. Which I may upgrade some time in the future but for now I just want the data protection back. Thanks Ed |

http://(snapserver ip or name)/config/debug
type config devices reinit all and let the system restart. It should bring the drives back to original state. I did this to remove a 'cracked raid' then try putting it back in a raid set |

1) Remove the second HD - Just work with the
single primary drive. 2) In debug, type: 'config devices info' - write down the "Logical Device" that shows the "Cracked" error. Mine was 50000 3) In debug, type: 'config devices unmount all' 4) THEN I had to type: 'config devices config individual 50000 force' (Where 50000 was mine, your's might be different) 4a) If an error occurs, remount the drives and do #4 again. 5) Last, I rebooted from debug typing: 'reboot' After that it took not too much longer than normal to boot, but a few extra seconds, also the lights blink alot differently. But in the main home page, I still have the "lost" shares, but my disks aren't mirrored or showing errors. |

Thanks for the input. Have access to all the data now. My goal is to restore the mirrored protection. Once I enter 'config devices config individual 50000 force' using my device number which also happens to be 50000 and reboot, can I then try to remirror the drives?
Thanks Ed |

What happens if I try the config devices reinit all command? Do I lose the data on my one good drive?

You shouldn't do.
It should basically unmount, restart and then remount the hard drive. I cant say for definata, ive only ever done it with no important files on the thing so i dont know. Someone else will be able to set this up. But the config devices reinit all, will sort out the cracked raid. Check the main thread, instructions are on there from other people, and my self, but i cannot remember due to it being a while since i did it. Thanks Sam |

Re: SNAP Server Disk Config
Hi, I have a problem in that my Snap crapped out, says that 2 drives are orphans from my RAID5 array (total of 7 drives) after a "Fatal Error" occured on the LCD. I had to do a hard reset of the OS as the WEB GUI could not be accessed at all after the error. Is there any way to make one of the Orphan to join back? At least the array would be in a degraded but still functioning state. All individual drives are showing as OK now after I did a hard reset, but I can't access my RAID5.
I tried to add the disks in by forcing but I get the following error : 12/05/2005 15:41:18 Device Configurations require Public Partition Ids I tried to do the "config devices config raid xxxx, yyyy, zzzz where they are the logical IDs, also tried the partition IDs shown in "config devices info", but they still don't work. All my drives have the same Unique Id if that helps. Thanks |

Re: SNAP Server Disk Config
I received this from snap tech awhile back when my 2000 failed. All you will need to do is specify the drives. I too forgot to change my email address. dd will be the raid ID that all of the dives uses, where ss is the actual address. If you have failed 2 drives, I don't know it it will work.
MIRROR REPAIR FOR ORPHAN 1. Data should remain but as precaution backup your data. 2. Execute the following command from the ipaddress/config/debug web page. Note: DD is the number of the problem hard disk. co de format 100DD /reinit (After reboot, this configures 100DD as a SINGLE drive and FORMATS it.) 3. Reboot the Snap server. 4. After the ORPHANED disk is formatted, execute this command from the ipaddress/config/debug page. co de config mirror 100SS 100DD SS is the source disk, DD is the destination disk. (This step mirrors the drive with data to the drive without data.) 5. Reboot the Snap. If everything works according to plan, the View Disk Status page should report ?Rebuilding backup disk? when it comes back online. |

Re: SNAP Server Disk Config
Hi, I have tried specifying the drives too, but unfortunately as mine is a RAID5 array, I cannot try to format any of the ORPHAN members as I need at least one out of the two ORPHAN members to get myself into a degraded RAID5 state to be able to construct from another fresh drive, I am worried my data cannot be recovered as no one seems to have encountered the problem I am seeing now. Thanks.

Re: SNAP Server Disk Config
My hd were numbered like 10000, 10010 etc. My Raid was 50000. If this helps There are several partitions besides these. I'm not sure you can recover with 1/2 of the drives down.
