Hello.
I am a first time waterblock builder. And i have som questions. I am going to make a pinwaterbock with W2*D2*H6mm pins and 2mm space between the pins. the o ´s is the drillig points. ooooooo o o o o o ooooooo o o o o o ooooooo i am going to use a 2mm drill to remove the most of the copper and the 2mm mill cutter to remove the remain. So the block is going to have small V cones on the bottom of the block (v-v-v-v-v). Witch gives me the best performance? save them to get more turbolens (movement), or to mill them down so i get better flow. And the final question how thick is the best for the base (the thickness of copper between the CPU and the cooling fins) i have a Yeong Chin YCM cnc to work with so you can be as exact you want. thanks in advance. As for the block I'd say you PM jaydee. He has milled tons of them. I think a 360mm (3x120) would hold your system but don't quote me on it. You may want seperate loups.

Base thickness depends on what kind of flow rate you are going to try. High flow rate thinner base, low flow rate thicker base. I find about a 4mm base is pretty good over all. Any thinner and I worry about flexing on some designs. Think surface area more than turbulence. The more copper to water surface area the better on these types of blocks. I was thinkng the samething on the rad as ben. 1 rad that has 3 120mm fans. |

Ok.
So if more surface i the key then i should save the drill cones. If i remove them the area is going to be 2*2=4mm2 If i leave them i vill have a cone surface of M=pi*r*1,28=4.02mm2 Then i vill have to ad the remaning flat area of A=(2*2)-(1*1*pi)=0,85mm2 So area without a con is 4mm2 And a area with a cone is 4.87mm2 So my Core 2 quad is W40mm*D40mm so to make it symetrical i have to ad 1 row of pins, thats 40*42mm = 11row with 10 pins each. Then i vill have to drill 310 holes That makes the surface on the block 1509,7mm2=310*4,87 A increase of 269,7mm2 compared if it would be plainflat. (a bit bigger then your thumbnail) And wen it coms to if its a high or low flow block. The pins is going to be standing like this. http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1033/namnlsku8.png So the water is forcet to go around evry pin (yes im going to make a beter blueprint in autocad, paint dosint cut it ![]() I will use 1/2 (12mm) tubing thats 113mm2 through put And i vill have 2*6*10=120mm2 in the block. The pump is going to be a danger den 12V D5 or equal. So my guess is that i vil have a thicknes of 4mm, but let the cons go down 0,8 mm extra. so 3,2mm to the cone top and 4mm to the normal surface. Dos it sound good? |

I have finaly got the program done.
This friday i will start milling the block 16:00 (GMT +01.00). I will uppdate this post how the progress gos. I have esimated the time to ~120 minutes I cant go any faster then 50mm/m or els i will brake the drill. |

Im DONE im done with this F**KIN CPU waterblock!
![]() I will never again try to mill with a tiny ass 2mm drill. ondly 50% off the block is done, and i have taken so mutch time so if i workt extra insted, i coud have purchase the moste expensive Block ther is on the market. 6000 rows of code and just this one have to be wrong! The most iritating thing is that 3 difrent CNC simulators dident se it! any way i will try to compleat the block with a dremel, make a top and polich the surface ant try it. But i will try to make a HDD block, with a 5mm drill the are ALLOT more stable then the 2mm. |
