Heatsink/ Heat Pipe / ThermoSiphon Cooling The cat will only make the mistake of putting its paw by your HSF once. :) Also the place to discuss the new high end heat pipe goodness. |

I've been screwin' around with fanbus, rheobus, controller setups for quite a while now and finally decided to add one of the fun ones to my watercooling rig.
I first found the setup here at hardware-corner.net if anyone's interested. It allows you to crank up a 12v fan to around 17v depending on the resistor you use...as well as turn it down to whisper quiet levels. ![]() I built a ghetto-box and added a stock AMD fan to cool the LM317 that get's pretty warm. ..controller mounted with power, fan and cooling fan leads. |

Added a second output in a free pci cover and mounted the separate 12v power supply with some velcro...

I had a variable power supply at school that could go all the way to 24v. It was powering a Delta 50cfm 60mm. I was slowly increasing the voltage until 20.5v or so. The fan just fell apart, bits of plastic flying everywhere. some flew for up to 6 feet

LOL! sounds like fun. I'm running a single 120mm German made, All Metal fan from a Rolm Phonemail system. Seeing as I'm not topping 17v, I'm hoping a large metal blade won't come flying out of the front of my case one of these days!!

I have a lab power supply in my room that goes to 30v. my physics teacher gave it to me since the amp meter was busted. it was a bitch to carry home since it weighs like 35 lbs and the carrying handle was broken.

nice setup jimbo. i like the DIY PSU, my style too
![]() wow brad!!! i bet that Delta sounded cool while it was running around 15000RPM heh (whirreeeeeeeeeeeeeee)? i wish i could've measured the thrust & CFM developed by that. i'm also curious if the failure was the result of failed bearings, or excessive loads (IMHO, it was probably excessive centripital loading combined with high frequency vibrations). perhaps modding the Delta with larger bearings, precision balancing the rotor, adding a harmonic damper, increasing the rotor fillet size, & reducing the windings using thicker guage may get it to work at insane RPMs (i'd like to see that executed). i hope you were wearing safety glasses ![]()

Heheh, I have a 0-40V DC 5 amp power supply sitting in the garage... I think I may have to test some fan's duribility.
