I never ran it as a service so not sure if DFGUI or any of the other monitoring programs will work. No, don't go by the percentage. This last update kept you comp 100% but was not doing anyting usefull and not turning in results.

Thanks for the info, that's what I thought. I remember reading something about being stuck in a infinite loop or something like that...

Edit: I just tried DFGUI and it seems to work.

They will still get stuck now and then as all three of mine where stuck today for 3 hours. But aslong as it isn't more than 3-4hrs just let it run.

I noticed that my workstation today in the lab was crashing at the "packing trajectory 145 for distribution" message right before it would get all the way to complete. Over and over again. I had to delete and reinstall. I look forward to a new version of the program for sure. All the rest of my boxes seem ok.

The one on my main rig corrupted itself again a few days ago, which was annoying. Lost quite a few points before I noticed it

Oh, well. At least we are ahead of the [H]

I was down and out for a little over an hour this morning as nice Thunder Storm Rolled over. At 4am I was half asleep and then a flash if light, power went out, BANG BANG BANG, power came back on. I went and unplugged all the comps after that even though they are on decent surge protectors. All back up and running now though. Bah, well off to work...

I broke 3million points today. Looks as if there is a few that will be taking over my spot at the top soon! Thats a good thing though! Means people are giving it hell. I will not be able to pose anything resembling a challenge though. I am stuck with what I have for a while. No plans to upgrade anytime this year.

Looks like we dropped under 1mill a day but still over 800,000 which is pretty good. Looks like we will pass Canada probably today. A couple teams behind us looks to have stepped it up a little.

Keep it up!

ok, so i got the dfgui. at first, the gui for one instance was at 100% where it says current generation: generation buffered.
but on the other instance, it wouldnt go over 4%. now, i cant get either over 5%. whats wrong? or is nothing wrong? im gonna try to put up a pic.

Yup, just let it run. It does that. If it gets stuck for more than 12hrs then start to worry.

Snip from the FAQ:

Quote:
My protein keeps getting stuck. Is my computer broken?
The new software uses a different approach to compute protein structures from phase I, (except for generation 0). Structure are computed by perturbing ever so slightly the best structure from the previous generation. Due to this restriction, there are a lot less places the protein can 'go' at each step and it is a lot more likely to bump into other atoms while building.

To counter this, the algorithm will 'give up' after a certain number of attempts (up to several hundred thousand in some cases) and start building the structure from the beginning again, in the hopes of avoiding the sticky point. If it continually gets stuck however, it will slowly increase the structure laxness levels. A given stuck structure will give up and restart folding after making 25N(log10 N)*CUBRT(gen)*SQRT(R) tries to place a residue, where N is the number of residues in the protein, gen the current generation number (or 1 for generation zero), and R is the residue number currently being placed. On a fast (2 GHz) computer this equates to 2-3 minutes real-time for a typical protein.

The structure laxness levels are three numbers which affect the quality of structures generated - basically how serious of an atomic clash is allowed and so on. The higher these get, the poorer the quality of the structure that gets built (in terms of geometry) but the less likely it will get stuck. Hence if you just leave it alone when stuck, it will eventually raise these laxness levels high enough to get unstuck. The levels are raised very slowly (for obvious reasons), however, the good news is, once raised, they maintain their levels so that you are not likely to get stuck again for nearly as long as the very first time it gets stuck. At the end of a generation the laxness levels are just slightly decreased, but will increase again if it gets stuck for awhile.

Thus getting stuck with this new algorithm is perfectly normal and to be expected, and although it may appear your computer is doing nothing, it is actually trying literally millions of placements trying to get all the atoms to fit together. Although it may still for several hours on one generation, once it gets through it, the others are not likely to take nearly as long, so do not get discouraged. We encourage everyone to let the client run and get up to generation 250, as that is where all the scientifically interesting stuff will begin to happen.

I just looked at your stats and think you need to delete it all, download the new client, and start over. Looks like something is broken.

Heh, I noticed one of my crunchers was unhooked from the net for the last 2-3 days. That's what that 120,000+ dump was about.... I aslo have been only running my LapTop and one of my crunchers the last couple days, oddy you couln't tell by looking at the stats though. Everything is up and running again now. 3 desktops and a laptop.
