Success upgrading 2000 to 500gb

I have a V2 2000 (actually a Dell Powervault 701N). Here are my specs.

I was able to upgrade to (2) Western Digital 250gb EIDE (ATA100) drives. This is the drive I used. I set them both to master, because that is the way the original (Maxtor 80-gb) drives were set. It recognized and formatted them automatically.

It took all night to set up the Raid 1, but all is working perfectly.

I also upgraded the RAM. I used a 256mb dimm, but it only seems to recognise 128mb. Still, it should be better than the original 64mb.

You have installed the wrong ram, page size. The snap only reconizes low density chips. So if you have some more, try them.

Is there any harm in leaving the high density chip in-place (am I risking data corruption, etc.)?

I don't have any other ram chips to throw in it. What should I look for in a description of the Ram to get the right part?

Does THIS look like the right part?

I can't tell from the pictures, and most (not all) PC133 SDRAM is high density, but the add says right in it "low density". The seller says he will guarantee the item, so....

I bought THIS one instead.

What would the best way to do a benchmark to compare whether this helps transfer speeds? I'll try copying a directory full of files and calculate the MB/sec. I'll do this with 64mb (stock), 128mb, and 256mb. I am mostly concerned with transfers of large numbers of 4 to 8mb files (mp3 files).

The extra ram helps with caching. It allociates 1/2 if I recall. Maybe more on 2 drive units. It does not help as much on a 2 drive raid1 as it does on a raid 5 system. And with the hd have more cache space too. With 128 meg, 4x00 units can run JVM. I think it still locled out on the 2x00 models.
