Snapserver 1100 fault, please help!!!
Hello together,

However, the hard disk is not damaged, could copy you on already with DD. How do I come now again to my data? To custom urgently a new Snapserver which I can insert my hard disk. Still somebody maybe has one which he can sell to me? Greeting derklotz |

Your english is a liitle broken and my german is mia.
From what I understand is the 1100 is not mounting. Can not access it by using assist or a web browser. If reset to factory you must use Assist to do the initial setup. What is the pattern of the LED's on the front? If you are replacing the hd, you must copy the first 25-30 meg of the original working hd. Instruction in wiki or use the link in my signature. Just make sure you set the jumpers back to master or single drive.

Hey, thanks for the answer. Sorry my English is not the best. You have properly understood me. I have assist version 4.0.860 this is right? Assist look for server and can find nothing. The system and Disk LED flash at the same time, and then Disk twice. Do you have no Snapserver 1100 more you can sell to me? Then I can insert my hard disk there. Greeting derklotz |

You'll find two Snap Server 1100 on eBay right now. At the time of writing one in the UK is at £100, and one in the US at $213 - both 80Gb units, although they should take other drives.

Re: Snapserver 1100 fault, please help!!!
So is this a hint that I should take all those Quantum 30 GB drives I took out of SNAP 4100 and SNAP 4000 units and make them into SNAP 1000 drives, ready for install (formatted and OS installed)?
Or maybe sell the "new in box" spare SNAP 1000 I have? |

Re: Snapserver 1100 fault, please help!!!
Derkoltz,
You will need to use a image file to recover from a missing or crashed HD. The 1100 can use a HD from a 2200. No other model are compatable with it. These 2 models use a std Boot BIOS, no flashram for the OS.

Re: Snapserver 1100 fault, please help!!!
If it is sending error codes (like above) the mb is not likely bad.
The led pattern (The system and Disk LED flash at the same time, and then Disk twice.) is what is sent if the os is damaged, missing or not compatable (from a different snap). This also apears on a blank drives. It's a fail safe mode where the os can be factory loaded. Remember that the snap should be the same model. If you install it in a different model, it's possiable the snap will init the drive if it does not reconise the file structure, erasing everything on it. If you checked the drive by any other means than reading the smart data with the mfg utility, you may have changed the MBR and file structure. In turn killing any Snap OS.
