1100 UPS Authentication nightmare
In trying to activate UPS shutdown support on my 1100, it requires me to enter the admin user name and Authentication Phrase fom my APC UPS (SmartUPS 1500). The problem is, is that the Snap requires a 15 - 32 digit passphrase, but the UPS doesn't allow more than 10 characters to be used as a passphrase. Am I misunderstanding which passphrase to use, or is there a way to modify the Snap's requirements for the passphrase length? Adaptec's support site has nothing about this and APC told me to talk to Adaptec. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Re: 1100 UPS Authentication nightmare
In order for Auto shutdown to work, you must have the APC AP9617 Network Mangement card installed. Then you have to tell the AP9617 what the IP address is. In the 9617 there is a place for the phase. Then you enter the matching phase into it. It will take up to 32 chr.
The Authentication Phrase is different than the login PW. Works like a top. I have it setup to turn off my 2200, 1100, 4100 and 4500.

Re: 1100 UPS Authentication nightmare
I'm a little confused. I have the AP9617 card installed.
Using the browser-based Admin for the UPS, where would I actually create that entry? Is it under the PowerChute section? There's a provision for entering IP addresses for devices to be shutdown and an Authentication phrase, but no username (see attached picture). Thanks for the help. |

Re: 1100 UPS Authentication nightmare
The page you have is where you set it up for the servers. Enter the phrase in the <hidden auth. phrase> box.
Then enter the IP address of the Snap (must be Static IP). Then connect to the snap admin. Under server setings, select UPS settings. Enter the ADMIN login in name & the pass phrase. (The user name is for the snap admin) I do not recall if the SnapOS auto boots, think's NOT. The Guardian OS supports reboot. You have the same unit as I do. If that's all you have conneced to the 1500va, you will have a ~8hr run time. I have a 1:35 with my network gear.

Beautiful. Now I just have to unplug the UPS and see what happens!

Make sure you batteries are charged for 24 hr the first time. Then do a couple of test. I like to put 3 complete cycles on the batteries. Then with all of your equipment connected run the calibration test. This will accurately determine the run time with load.

Re: 1100 UPS Authentication nightmare
I've got a snap 4500 that simply won't communicate with my APC. The APC has a static IP, the 4500 has been configured to talk to that IP, set w/ the APC username and the APC Authentication Phrase yet doesn't work.
I apply all of that and when it refreshes I get this: APC Status: Unknown All my other hardware is talking to the APC just fine. Anyone got any suggestions? Adaptec wants $350 just to talk to me about. |
