would those metal braided tubes(the kind under your sink) work, if you could get them connected without leaking? im asking since it would look cool with an aluminum case, and im thinking of doing it for my new system.

Hmm I'd like some of that tubing. It is definitely on the pricey side but the properties sound pretty good.

the tygon looks exactly like vinyl... i wonder if its elastic memory is like silicone or like vinyl... if its anything like vinyl then whats the point?
anyone know what the Shore A durometer is for the standard vinyl tubing everyone is using? the silicone we use has a shore A of 50, the tygon is 55. so the tygon is pretty soft, i THINK. i want to know the durometer of vinyl for comparison. Last edited by DigitalChaos; 03-23-2002 at 10:46 AM. |

Actually there are some versions of it that aren't too pricy - go to http://www.usplastic.com, click on the "More Tygon Tubing" link and look at the prices for the various "Beverage, Food, and Dairy" tubing. However, the down side is that it isn't anywhere near as flexible as that made for the "Peristaltic Pump" application (instead of a Shore A of 40, the beverage has a Shore A of 65, still better than vinyl, but not as good as some of the silicone).
DG - here is a page with Vinyl tubing, shows a Shore A rating of 80. So from that regard some of the Tygon is much, much closer to silicone than vinyl. Just be careful that you look at the Shore rating of the actual tubing you use, as there are different grades of tubing. Also, the softer stuff doesn't hold up to as much pressure for a given wall thickness. Last edited by EMC2; 03-23-2002 at 02:30 PM. |

chaos, so your gunna cut the tube, attache it to a copper elbo, then reatach a tube? Wouldnt that make it verry prone to leaks? If you insist on useing copper elbows, hy not just screw the tubes and use the copper pipes instead, it would look pretty cool, and be less leak prone than attaching tubes to copper elbows.

nahh... ill just use mini zip ties if im worried about leaks... whats all this talk about leaks? it seems to hardly ever happen unless you are using crappy tube, or you just dont think. hell if been running vinyl for almost a year with NO zipties or clamps. havent had a leak yet!!
you should check out mashie's setup, he is like the plumbing pimp |

Guys... it's not price at all!
1/2ID 5/8 OD is $18.67 for 10 FEET!!! http://www.vwrsp.com/catalog/product...ect_id=0013719 that's $1.87 a foot! Class VI Medical Grade Silicone Rubber Tubing is $5.52 a foot at Mcmaster.com that's the clear stuff. the regular is $1.22 for the off white, and $1.33 for the red it's about the same cost, and this stuff seems like it will be better. Besides, I've heard reports that Silicon tubing tends to absorb Water Wetter, which I could se becoming a problem (unvarified tho)

well you are pricing thin tubing to thick tubing.
the cost of 1/16" wall tubing is $1-1.5 a foot but 1/8" wall tubing is almost $3 per foot if you buy 50 feet. sooo.... 1/8" wall silicone is about the same price as 1/16" tygon. |

well, how do you know it was 'absorbing' the water wetter? perhaps the coloring of the water wetter just stained the silicone tubing...
