Rads I picked up at the scrap yard. (pics)
Here are a few of the rads I scavanged from the srap yard a few weeks back. I took a second pic with a 120mm Panaflow just for a general idea of the size of them.
This is the one I am currently using as it was a gem! Barbs for 1/2"ID tubing stock and it is small enough to put in the front of the case and just right for a 120mm fan. I made a adapter out of acrylic with the laser cutter at work and some brass sheet metal. I cut a hole in the bottom of the case if you are wondering about air flow. Water temps are very good as the fins on this thing are real copper not brass and they have many mini fins on the main fins. Flow through it is also very good! I took this out of an 1978ish Toyota 2wd pickup. ------------------------------------------------- Here is another possible good rad that I havn't played with yet. Very similay to the above but a little longer and with larger pipes. They appear to be for 5/8ID tubing. Pulled this out of a 1975 Chevy Luv Pickup. -------------------------------------------------- The beauty about this one was the simplicity to remove from the vehicle! Unlike the others which required about 30 mins of dash destruction ![]() -------------------------------------------------- Here is the rad I used previously that I bought at Federated auto parts for $25. It is out of a 1988 Ford Escort with AC. I beilive it is also the same as the popular Chevett core. It is just to big though and the little one I am using now does just as good a job with the setup I have now. -------------------------------------------------- The three I pulled out of the scrap yard cost $9 each. Not sure what the new price would be but I assume not cheap! Last edited by jaydee116; 10-22-2002 at 07:39 PM. |

I like the one from the "luv pickup"!
![]() There are heatercores that are very thick (2 5/8). That's the kind I'm shooting for ![]() |

Nice.
As a side note, that Escort heatercore does not match the one from a Chevette. The Chevette one is 8.25"x7"x2", with one 5/8" barb and the other being 1/2". The fin surface is 7"x7"x2". |

well if u c all those dimensions, one doesn't understand all the black ice hype; it is always possible to find the custom matched HC that fits any type of case perfectly

![]() But, it looks like I'll have to re-measure the rest of it as well, since my specs don't match the heatercore4u.com ones. Maybe I just can't operate something as fancy as a yardstick... ![]() |
