Ok, I have been working on this plexiglass case design for some time not and i need some feedback on it. The pics are below...

Just some extra comments: There are 2 120x28 fans in the front blowing over the radiator, then over the hdd's with another fan behind that to excellerate air over the video card and other expansion slots. It has room for another same size radiator under the psu where the 2 120mm holes are. There is space for a pump between the cd drives and psu. the best part is the whole case measures about 20x20x7.5 inches. The other feature I am proud of is the fold out mobo tray (like on a G4 case) there should be enough space to route cables close to the sides of the case so when you need access to the tray, they will just hing at the joints and not get in the way.

Also, the hdd can just be slid right in with the connections facing you, so you dont have to really dig to get to them. One, more thing, the way the case is designed, i should be able to start with air cooling and move to water cooling when needed. I will add more comments when I think of them, but in the mean time, please let me know if you see any problems or have any concerns with this case design.

Just the obvious re: having hot air blowing over the HDD's - unless I misunderstand the dir of airflow.....

One thing, take a good look at how you have the motherboard oriented. The PCI slots are coming out the wrong side of the MB for where the CPU is.

@ utabintarbo: No worries about that. The air won't all be that warm when it reaches the HDs, perhaps a few degrees over ambient.

@ murray13: you're absolutely right! I guess he'll have to mirror-image the whole design to make it work. Having said that, it looks like a very sweet setup indeed! Only... I really wouldn't put the pump in the top, between PSU and CD-Rom. Instead, put the res there (one of those nice AC Tubes), and the pump between Mobo and HD array at bottom of the case. Nice one.

The front bezel looks intrigueing... Johnny X, are you going for a Mac (LCD monitor bezel) look, perhaps?

Yes I am going for a macintosh G4/Sony viao look. In the future I could add an lcd, I think I will if I have cash left over.

I dont think the air going over the hdd will be that hot, besides even if it is kind of warm, it will still be better than no air flow.

Also, I think I have the Mobo orientation just fine. I modeled it after the Abit kd7. Atleast I dont think it is backward. The one thing I might do though, is flip it upside down, so the pci slots are at the top of the case. How ever, i dont think it will make that much of a difference.

Here are some more pics after adding the side radiator and making it 20 mm longer. That way there will be some more room for cables and tubes that will be routed through the area around the hdd's and mobo.

Also, I will post some pics of my waterblock design when they are finished.

i really like how this looks. only thing is, have you ever worked with plexiglas before? its evil incarnate.

you might want to consider how you are going to make this thing. cutting 120mm wholes in plexiglass is really hard - i cut all the 80mm holes with a hole saw and a drill press, but holesaws dont get much bigger than this. also, cuttting square holes is a HUGE pain. you have to do it with a hacksaw or dremmel, and it takes forever.

ideally you can get all of your pieces laser cut or something, but, if not, it would take a seriously large amount of work to make this thing.

very cool other than that though! after making a cube case, you really start to see the advantages to normal ones...

Very nice overall design....

Question though; do you really need all those 120mm fans around the motherboard/video? I fyou plan on watercooling in the near future (or any time soon), it seems like a waste of time to install and cut all three of those fan holes when they probably wont be used any more. Personally just one would be sufficent.

Thats just my take on things (and would save you lots of time and effort

)

Otherwise, I wouldnt mind having one of those

I do think you have the MOBO orientation wrong.
Look here KD7

If you mount the MOBO on the flip out tray the PCI slots will naturally be in the middle of the back plate and the remaining connectors will be on the bottom.

I like the MAC G4 style flip down tray. You might need some seriously long IDE cables and ATX power cable extentions to be able to open and run the box. Cable routing will be very important.

I agree with ezlid: trust me, your mobo is mirror-imaged... still, no worries; all you do is mirror-image your case design!
