This is some realy old pics from rad/rez project I tryed back in 2001, it didn't work too great and I've switch to a external evap system that beats anything I've seen, The rad/rez might have worked better if it had been copper.

REZ/RAD

I've just made this:

Using a Sigg camping water bottle. Looks pretty good i think. Should work quite well.

that looks really nice olv, but how'd you put in the barbs since the tank is round? nice work. quite easy wasn't it?

olv 03-26-2004 09:04 AM

Just drilled it with a 12mm drill and they screwed in fine. although the bottom barb is being a complete bitch, can't get a good seal, mainly because i slipped when drilling it, whoops.

Here's my latest res that I made. 10$ in plastic, 4$ for the glue, and 3$ for the fittings. any comments? thanks

lol. does that actually cool the water (bong-cooler style) or is it simply to look pretty / make noise? if it does cool the water, how well does it cool? enough to not need a rad?

But, I need to pay for about 40 HKD for the large one as taps itself is really expensive in HK due to the large size. BTW. the cost of making this custom reservoir is about 90 HKD or ~ USD11.54. It is quite decent at least I feel that. :D

no it doesn't really cool the water, and ya its kinda for looks. The custom chiller that its conecyed to though keeps everything run at a steady 9c, about 12c or 13c when I'm playin call of duty. It was mostly just to see if I could make it and have it actually hold water without leakin all over. I'll get tired of it in a couple days and get a new idea and build something different.

alexwai, that res looks really good, and well made
I'm after trying something similar myself.
What sealant/adhesive did you use?
I've been looking at aquarium sealant, or simple clear silicone sealant?

there are specific acrylic cements for the job. the one i recall is thin (like water) and permanently bonds the pieces together. i dont remember the name however; try searching the forums for acrylic cement and see what comes up. you might find some at your local hardware store.

I am using IPS Weld-On #4 which is specifically designed to glue the piece of acrylic. :D

nice res. guys, i really like Corso's b/c of the tube-like design and i like alexwai's b/c of the craftsmanship, it looks so professional. all of these custom res's are really nice. shows a lot of creativity and how people love DIY projects.

I havent got any accrylic sheet but would it be ok to use the cases from cd's. It looks like accrylic. I would need to cut the edges off and the side peices may need to be made from two peices glued together for strength, any one think this will work? I have a few hundred spare cd cases I could use for this....

or anyone know a shop in uk that sells it?

Butcher 03-30-2004 01:51 PM

I'd think CD cases might be a bit thin and fragile. You can get acrylic and polycarbonate sheet from http://www.rswww.com in the UK (note they only sell in fairly large pieces).

|kbn| 03-30-2004 05:27 PM

I had the idea and posted before I had a look at the cases. I agree they are far too thin (~1mm?) and crack easlly, they are too brittle..
This could work if 5 or 6 cases were glued together for strength but I dont think I could be arsed.
Ive looked at rs and they didnt have it in any small enough quantity :(
