1/2" OD

I have changed my barbs to 1/2" only to fit the rest of my system

Did you just remove the top and re-tap for the bigger barb? Was the top easy to remove and seal again? Has it made a difference in performance? I also have a 1/2" system and have considered buying this block and moddin it. Are those barbs 1/2"od 1/4"id?

DodgeViper 03-15-2002 09:29 AM

The Gemini Cool because of its channel size I do not think you want to enlarge the hole in the Lexan. If you do you may risk crossing over into the next channel. The Lexan is tapped for 1/8" pipe thread. The top is sealed. I bought 1/8" to 1/2" OD barbs from McMaster Carr. The main reason I changed out the barbs was the rad I built I used 1/2" OD barbs and the pump that is backordered is for 1/2" ID tubing. You’re not going to gain anything by enlarging the hole in the Lexan. The High Volume Block was designed for pumps of 360 GPH. To answer you question the barbs are 1/2” OD and 5/16” ID.

Fixittt 03-15-2002 11:56 AM

Peter told me that you would not want to put bigger ID barbs in the block becuause it will defonitly have channel overlap.

What VIPER did was addapt the gemini block to his existing cooling setup. I think by doing that it would cause backpreasure on the pump, and lower flow rates..... I guess Viper can aswer those questions.

I got a floor model (it was in perfect condition). I only spent 170 bucks for a $300 drill press :D

The only problem with it, is that you can't put extreamly small bits in the chuck. The chuck is a 5/8" chuck. I could just swap it out, but I need the large chuck for my big boring bits.

DodgeViper 03-15-2002 12:38 PM

Fixiiit, your correct. I had already purchased the 1/2" silicon tubing and the radiator already had been built using 1/2" barbs. The new barbs are the same inside but will fit 1/2" hose. There very well may be backpressure, but with the pumps being used for water-cooling you’re going to get backpressure. The High Volume Block is designed for 360 GPH or more. Most high output pumps including Eheim's come with larger inlet/outlet fittings than the 3/8" fittings found on Gemini WB. Whether you reduce the pipe size at the pump or at the WB it's still the same. Once the pump arrives I will run a test and find out what the water flow is going through the HVWB.

Thanks for keeping the forum safe from evil.....

I found it humorous how all of gemini's _defensive_ postings were deemed "unprofessional" by you, and when fixxit posts that he is "talking with Gemini" (for the second time) you step forward like you were an key negotiator in the peace process.

All of your posts on this issue are and have been "unprofessional" (read biased) from the start.

Check out the "I don't believe this!! CPUfx" thread if anyone needs a reminder.

Maybe its just me but all the bashing has gotten pretty old. Its gotten to the point where there are really 2 types of water cooling equipment (or really anything).
"Stuff that works"
-and-
"Stuff that i can say i own on a forum without wearing asbestos"

I'd love to order a Fixxit made spir@l from D-Tek but the fact is it would be pretty damn hard for me to get my hands on one. I'm glad that him and Gemini have attempted to redress their grievances again.

Now if we could all just join hands and sing a particular Michael Jackson song i think we could make the world a better place.....

Jim 03-15-2002 09:57 PM

Sing what?
:D

It would be nice if increased production and profits (for them) would come out of this. I would like to try a Fixittt Spir@l, sooner than later.

I feel the same way about the whole Gemini and Fixittt thing. I ran my mouth cause I felt feelings. And I publicly and personally appologized for it.I also sought out a way that would end it and make the customers win in the situation.

Things are coming together, and I feel that with the new found friendships, things will become that much tighter

WATCH OUT MARKET HERE WE COME TO DOMINATE!

I just always wanted to say that!

DodgeViper 03-15-2002 10:42 PM

It’s great that a new friendship will develop because the consumer is going to benefit having you both. Look what AMD did for the CPU market. Having Intel and AMD has brought the price down and in turn has given us all better CPU in a shorter amount of time. Now if we could only do something with Microsoft....

Brad 03-15-2002 11:37 PM

fix, what about a penguin block in the designer series?

sunblade 03-16-2002 12:38 AM

Ahhh no brad, that was my idea ;) Actually, I'm rather interested as to how a penguin block would perform. Morphling's design with all the spikes looks like a similar shape to what I was thinking of, but the way he had the water come over the core and split off is probably a better design than having dual input or output barbs.

Brad 03-16-2002 03:07 AM

you could use very thin pvc as the channels, and use white LEDs to illuminate the inner area, and have the outer part anodised black, so it looks just like a penguin

Fixittt 03-16-2002 08:42 AM

I was thinking about it and what I think would be kool is to a solid penguin shape inside the block, then mill fins thure it. So it holds the basic shape but increases surface area. I think if done right, you could still reconize the shape, and have the inlet and out lets on the sides of the block
