seemingly perfect pelt power supply
 

I was looking at mpja's site this morning when I stumbled upon this power supply. Given the voltage and current ratings this thing looks perfect for pelt setups and is cheap at the same time!!

it matches the specs for my 156w pelt from leufken perfectly. Sounds like it's time to whip out the pelt again and get a maze1c1

Thanks for the link. I'm still looking for some better quality power supplies myself. While that particular one doesn't fit my dual Drift 1.15s (120W) very well, I did find a 24V, 8.5 unit that would fit the bill quite nicely. True, it would take two of these power supplies, one for each peltier, but my alternative is one 24V 20A PS which would cost over $300 :( Thanks again!

I'm sure there would be a Voltage feedback point with a pot somewhere in it

yeah I agree Brad. Good find Matt, though it's a little chunky for an internal mount, it looks like a great deal.

it aught to be perfect for my pelt, the pelt draws 18.5A @ 15.1v while pumping 156w of heat, so that has my bases covered and I should be able to mount it upstairs in my SX1240

well, I got it and it works great. it is made by TDK. it is however quite loud! Hopefully I can figure something out because if the fan doesn't spin the PSU shuts off

use a larger 80mm, 92mm, 120mm fan to cool it down

Is it louder than a regular ATX power supply?

the link is bogus because they don't sell it anymore.

this fan is way louder than a ATX psu, it is about as loud as a 80mm delta. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if it is a delta.

TDK's distributor for the model of this PSU is sending me a maintenence manual so I know what to change. This PSU costs $152 from the manufacturer!! I got a great deal!

just got mine today, now im just waiting for my 226w tec to come in. is there a way to make the power supply turn on when the computer turns on?

how can this PSU power a 226w pelt? or did you get a different one. I just have the switch on my UPS turning on and off the power to the system(which turns itself off), pump, and pelt psu. since there's fans on the psu and one inside it I don't forget to turn it off.

it would be about 5% away from powering a 226w pelt, it could work, but not for long periods of time.

as for powering it on, just use a relay

well, I have the pelt in and stuff. this thing works great!! it maintains 15.05v even with the pelt and fans on it!! I am at 1700mhz right now!

I ordered one yesterday. I'll see how it goes when I get it. Replacing the fan is a must I guess. What is it? 80mm?

yes, it is an 80mm fan. it is not a simple swap out tho. I am unsure of the monitoring technique they use in this thing. The distributor/manufacturer kepco is sending me a maintenence manual so I can find out how to replace it. The fan is very nevessary for this unit in it's factory form tho. do not try to take it out entirely without first replacing the small heatsinks inside with larger ones :)

As long as you only need 15V max, you can get a lot of very good PSUs for pelt power by using supplies made for HAM radio equipment ;)

If you need more V, the switcher based ones can be Vmodded just like mbs.

Is it possible to run a 16V/24A 226W pelt on this PSU? Wouldn't the pelt just draw less power (around 12.5V/20A or so)? I'm considering trying it, but I don't have much pelt experience ....

The pelt I was referring to above is 15.2V/24A. If I was to run a .188 Ohm/160W resistor inline, would that allow me to run the pelt at 11.44V/18.1A? That is kind of what I was getting at above (without having to do the math ... I'm lazy). I'd really like to make this thing work if it is as beefy as Matt says. Plus, the fan won't add much to the seven fans already in my box.
