finally water cooled

be cooling jagged edge ans clamp

without water cooling (with side off cvase)

44 idol 52 max

with water cooling

ambient 29-32

34-37 idol ( were having a heat wave so during the hot part its up to 36-37 but for regular conditions 34-35 idol

maxes out about 41

thats a athlon xp 1800+ at 1754mhz

very happy with the results, hopefully the arctic silve will impriove yet its nly been on there about 24 hours max.

DId you guy notice any difference after it cures?

#Rotor 07-01-2002 06:56 PM

not too shabby..... need some pictures..... :)

Boltz 07-01-2002 07:07 PM

I do believe arctic silver doesnt cure, it rather stays in a goo state. I wouldnt think it makes a difference how long it sits for it to preform any better

toddalaska 07-01-2002 07:08 PM

Its still at the embarassing GHETTO looking stage, ill get some pics as soon as i clean it up a little

Very happy with the results though

bigben2k 07-01-2002 07:54 PM

That's a very, very nice temp drop.

toddalaska 07-01-2002 09:55 PM

SOrry bad wording abut the arctic silver 3 not cure so to say but onthere site says it needs 72 hours before optimal performance.

Bigben, yeah ive been real impressed so far a major difference for me and no loud thermaltake fans to boot.

and for $120 it was well worth the money

is it better to have the fans blowing through the radiator or sucking through it?

Boltz 07-02-2002 02:42 AM

Depends on your situation

If the rad is mounted to the top of the tower in a blow hole then blowing out of the case pulling the inside case air through and out of the case

if it is in the front lower corner of the case then pulling air IN to the case through the radiator

I had this discussion with gmat. It seems that it would be better for a fan to suck the air through the rad, but you have to make sure that there's a seal between the rad and the fan housing.

If the rad restricts air flow a lot, then you might consider a push-pull setup, to increase the airflow a bit. You would do this because a single fan is not able to handle a lot of flow restriction, so a second fan helps fix that. The resulting flow (using two similar fans) will increase, somewhere between what a single fan can do, and the optimal flow at zero resistance. It will not increase the flow of air to something faster than what a single fan can do freely by itself.

I remember reading that in here some where, about the pull thas how i set it up. Seems to be doing good that way i might d a push pull just to see.

any ideas why adding hypet-lube would give me a +1 degree rise?

Im thinking maybe THe mix is too strong, i puit quite a bit in there.

Its only 1 degree , just one of those irritating things i guess, could be room temp varyng too.

Well, you answered this yourself!

Water alone, without any additives, is the best coolant that one can use. Performance drops when it's no longer just water.

toddalaska 07-02-2002 10:39 AM

ok thats what i was kinda wondering, if water was the best coolant.

I thinned out the additive to a NORMAL level and all seems to be back to where it was.

I guess MORE is not better ( i gotta get away from thinking like that dangit)

thanks for the help guys, this forum is the reason i went with water cooliong finally, i read through about every post in here all the way to the last page.

SOme of the best reading Ivve done, definitly the best on this issue.

Any way once again thanks till my next noob question

:D
