Stuck in Noisy Computer Hell

I am locked away in a data center right now rebuilding a SQL server, what fun!

and its gotta be 70 dB in here.. driving me nutz!

Brians256 08-29-2002 07:21 PM

How can you hear the computers when your music is playing at 110dB?

Fight for your right to paaaaarty (in the data center)!

Joe 08-29-2002 07:48 PM

Actually, I got a set of Sennheiser headphones on cranked playing Adema and Deadpool right now so I am not hearing anything ;)

mfpmax 08-29-2002 09:51 PM

water cool EVERYTHING!

thebigNil 08-30-2002 12:51 AM

Yeah no need for those fancy hoses and waterblocks. Flood the room and when someone ask what your doing tell them *slipn' slide*

If that's just a thought, what the heck are you thinking???

My bet is yes, since it's mostly water and salt.

gogo 08-30-2002 11:19 AM

Fill the whole room. However I was thinking more along the lines of the liquid oxegen that deepsea divers use.

Joe 08-30-2002 11:44 AM

Ahhh hyper oxygenated fluid.

Not a bad idea, except that I think it would probably corrode stuff mighty fast :)

gogo 08-30-2002 11:53 AM

Parts would be obsolete and upgraded before that anyhow.:)

seal the parts with schelack.

and definately no smoking on the job.

I hadn't thought of the oxidation part. I was thinking it would smell better than oil. and you could breath it.

Bah! I WORK in the data center of one of the two biggest hospitals here. 62-65 deg F and nice & noisy.

Tons of PCs and Servers AND the two huge air conditioners :p

Joe 09-01-2002 11:25 PM

I work in the central data center for the entire state. ( 3 floors at 10k Sq ft per floor.)

I dig servers, I dig network gear, but I also dig a nice quiet office :)

The Spyder 09-02-2002 01:51 AM

I get to have fun in the state data center 2 :) 10 floors - all under ground about another 10floors-- connections to OC-48 backbones up the wazzu- only go in like 1 a month :)- just to check on the floor of server i built- havent had a problem yet!

Can O' Beans 09-02-2002 02:56 AM

I'm in this noise 8 hrs a night, 5 days a week. :(

Add the big IBM high speed printer to that as well.

Although it's 1" foam sound insulation on it's outter panels sure makes a difference when you close the door...

I still don't know why they put that big printer INSIDE the main computer room when it kicks out a lot of paper dust. And since they do no preventative maintenance, whenever something fails, it's usually due to a big buildup of dust.. Hmm... I wonder why...
