Default Re: HACK a Quantum 2000 Series SNAP?

ed,

Your unit supports hd >137 gig. (v2 BIOS & HW) OS is stored in flashram, So upgrading is as easy as replacing the drives and turn the unit on. Give it 10 minutes an you will have admin access, while the formating is going on. As to how big it will handle? 1 users installed 2 x 500gig = 1T, a couple with 400gigs, and many with 300gig. The drive of choice has been Seagate 7200.9 or 7200.10 5 yr warranty.

Since you are registered with adaptec. Request OS update v 3.4.807. They have been emailing the link to the file with user ID and PW, free of charge. Only works with registered users.

These units are very reliable. If your current drives are of the 5400rpm vintage, I would recommend a higher cfm fan. Depending on the age of the unit, I would replace the fan every 3 yrs, pm. At the least make sure the smtp is setup to send you alerts if error accour.

If you require MS 2003 AD Support, I think you need v4.0.860. I do not know what was added or fixed since version 3.4.805.

Since it uses a software raid. I would upgrade the DIMM's to 128-256meg. Will improve the performace. The 2000 requires PC100/133 a low density memory chips, ram chips on both side. The wiki section has a spread sheet with the ram info.
