Default FTP Client Software FileZilla vs SmartFTP

I have been testing my network and ran across some interesting performance differences between FTP Client Software.

Hardware used for testing:
Intel P4 3.2 ghz, 250gig Hitachi SATA HD, w/gigabit port , 1G DDR Ram (duel Channel)
Dlink DGS1216T Gigabit Switch
Snap 4500, Raid 5, 4x400gig, dual gigabit ports
Netgear FVS338 Router.

Setup:
PC and 4500 connected to switch, 1 cat5e from switch to router.

Software used Current version SmartFTP and FileZilla

Test procedure:

Transfer a single 750meg file from desktop PC to Snap4500, with 0, 4088 and 9k packet size. I dis-regarded startup data and only recorded average transfer rates in MB/sec, 3 runs. Caching only showed up in SmartFTP.

packet size SmartFTP FileFTP
0 10.8 10.9
4088 10.6 15.7
9000 2.8* 15.3

* It does not like Large packets for some reason.

Conclusion: FileZilla is 33% faster than SmartFTP

Is any one else experiencing this activity.
