If you not sure take a high rez photo and email it to me. I will confirm it for you.

I do not have any linux pc's running at the moment. So I cant help you there. But most any will work as long as you can set up a schedule.

One thing I recommend for any new users is to fail a HD and see what the recovery process is. It allways better to test your system before putting it in service.

Another thing to look at is to see if all of the HD's have the same starting point. If it was upgrade and had a hd failure early on, the starting points may be different as well as the drive size. But simply remove the array and re formating the drives clears up the problem.
