You biggest restriction would be the power supply. If it's 12vdc 2.5+ amp you can install most anything. But I would recommend keeping it under 500gig. There are like 3 different models of the the 1x000 maybe 4. If you watch your start up, if the HD has a delay start, I would stop around 250gig. If the HD spins up instantly you have the later model and can use the larger drives. In any case I would recommend running it 24/7. Starting stopping is the hardest thing to do one these units. Connect it to a UPS and let it go.
