If it's from his partition, his log file may need to be cleared out. I do not remember if there is a limit on the db size. But this should not grow very fast unless some type of problem, and or a lot of retarts. It could even be caused by hackers trying to breakin, this generates a lot of logs, I know this from experience. If he's using the 4500 as DHCP server, this may also generate logs.

The guardian os is designed very well. It is very hard to believe that Snap/Adaptec would shipped a unit without enough ram to do a upgrade. The lower 4200 were shipped with less ram and have no problems.
