FreeBSD can be loaded with a few tweeks for the hardware. It was done on a 4500 over a year ago. That would allow you to run FreeNAS, because it is built on the FreeBSD platform. At one time this was in beta and may still be. I have played with it several years ago, before I got my 4500. Search for FreeBSD and see if you can find it.
